About this property
Mid Century Cabin in the Redwoods
Located on a quiet street, this 2-bedroom 2-bath cabin is surrounded by majestic old-growth Redwood trees. Relax with a glass of wine on one of two new redwood decks. The sound of birds flapping their wings as they fly overhead is one of the only sounds you'll hear. Inside, enjoy the mid-century architecture and a collection of ever-evolving modern and folk art.
The cabin is our family getaway, our absolute favorite spot, and we offer it to guests just ten times a year. The architecturally striking cabin, the prettiest one in the area, is close to great wineries, restaurants, spas, and hiking. Just as importantly - it's not in the flood zone nor the fire zone.
We know this cabin is more expensive than some others in the area, and it doesn't disappoint. You'll find comfortable mid-century furniture with plenty of modern touches. The grounds are landscaped and bouquets of locally grown fresh flowers are inside. The kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry areas are fully stocked, from spices and butter to detergents and soap, and plenty of paper products. Lots of extras are included - kindling and almond firewood, charcoal for the BBQ, beer & soft drinks in the fridge, ice cream in the freezer, and retro coffee service with a Chemex pourover.
We manage the cabin ourselves and it's a passion project for us. Details are important to us - from the gardens to the linens. We take the time to get it picture perfect, inside and out, for our guests. Every year, we host anniversaries, milestone birthdays, honeymoons and wedding parties. 30% of our guests have stayed with us at least once before.
Please inquire if you want to bring a pet. We occasionally allow a well-behaved dog, never puppies or other animals. All stays with pets need to be approved with the owner prior to booking.
The cabin's exterior, with a dramatic roofline, has won architectural awards. The inside was recently remodeled, creating an open and inviting living space. We've added lots of original artwork. Skylights in every room - even over the beds and above the fireplace - bring the outdoors in. A huge stone fireplace and an audiophile's sound system make this a cabin to remember. Romantic and cozy for a couple as well as great for young families.
We know cleanliness is important to our guests. It's super important to us, too, and to be perfectly honest, we're slightly obsessed with keeping the cabin sparkling clean. You'll notice that carpets have just been shampooed, and windows and skylights are spotless. All linens (including blankets, pillows, and coverlets) are sanitized well in advance of each stay. We don't take back to back bookings.
Sleeps up to two. (Set up as a two bedroom, but the cabin is a legal one bedroom because of the septic system size.) Comfortable beds include a CA King from European Sleepworks in the master bedroom, queen bed in the office, and an almost full size pull out sofa in the living room, which is fine for children or one adult. Radiant heat floors in the bathrooms, central heat, and a wood burning Fisher stove keep you warm inside, as the majestic Redwoods and large front-yard Bigleaf Maple keep the property slightly cooler than the surrounding areas. Custom California Closets, high-end linens and appliances including a Bosch washer and dryer, and floor to ceiling windows throughout.
The two new redwood decks add another 1200 feet of outside space for you to enjoy. On the shade-filled side deck, fern fronds quietly unfold. On the spacious back deck, bordered by red and purple flowers, Anna's hummingbirds are enticed to feed. Each deck has multiple seating options and year-round warmth beneath commercial patio heaters.
Announcing our new collaboration with Bruce Patch Wines! All stays receive a complimentary bottle of Bruce Patch's Zinfandel. Our friend and neighbor Bruce is a renowned winemaker, has access to incredible vineyards, and makes bold & flavorful wines with an artful label. See www.brucepatch.com for more.
You might not have heard of Forestville, CA, before. (We hadn't either.) With a population of just over 3,000, it's home to vineyards, farms, wineries and a small downtown shopping area. It's wonderfully diverse. On the one hand, you might see wild turkeys meandering down our road, and there's a Michelin starred restaurant in Forestville, too. We're happy to recommend our favorite haunts - many close-by and fabulous wineries and restaurants for you to visit during your stay.
The cabin has internet as of July 2023, thanks to Starlink's new technology for rural areas - relying on 10,000 small satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). It's still a rural cabin with plenty of giant redwood tree obstructions, but cell phone service and internet are now available. Starlink is adding more LEO satellites each month, so internet service continues to improve.

Our stay was incredible. Elizabeth was a very generous host and went above and beyond making sure we felt welcomed and comfortable. The cabin was well appointed and beautiful. The setting was gorgeous. Being within a Redwood grove adds an extra element of grounding and majesty. We wish we could have stayed longer and hope to return.
Very quiet, comfortable, clean and beautifully furnished. We enjoyed our stay and the location. It was amazing to be surrounded by redwoods. We could even see them through the skylights! We how to return!
We had a lovely stay at the cabin, which is located in a very tranquil area of the redwoods. It is beautiful and a great place to unwind but also conveniently located for visiting the area. The cabin had everything we needed for a long stay and our host, Elizabeth, was extremely helpful and made our stay wonderful. We will be back!
My wife and I completely enjoyed our time in Forestville. Our hostess was very helpful and responsive to our questions. She provided excellent recommendations for wine tasting and places of interest to visit. We hope to return for a getaway soon.
You can’t beat the experience of staying in this beautiful cabin. Everything was perfect. The setting is magical. The house is clean, stylish and has everything you need. Hosts goes out of her way to create a unique experience! Thank you!
We stayed here during a very rainy January so we did not get to experience most of the outdoor space this property has to offer, however it is very cute and quiet. We really enjoyed waking up surrounded by Redwoods and it is not far to fantastic wineries and restaurants.
Elizabeth, the host, was very communicative and helpful and truly made this a wonderful experience.
We had an incredible stay. The house was incredibly well decorated and just quirky enough to make it extra special. Most importantly, the owner was really welcoming and made sure our time in Forestville was memorable. It felt like we were staying at a friend's house. Would 100% recommend.
This is a really unique property that gives you the opportunity to stay tucked in a remote neighborhood, while also being within close proximity to some wonderful hiking, restaurants, wineries, and even the coast. Elizabeth is a top-tier host, who will make sure that you're comfortable, from booking through checking out. We had a blast. Highly recommended.
Believe everything you've read in the reviews. Truely a wonderful home in amazing redwoods. Cleanliness is impecable and Elizabeth is beyone a super host. You won't find a more accomodating host and just wonderful person. If there were more than five stars to give we would. Don't miss a chance to stay there.
This cabin in the redwoods is an exceptional getaway for anyone who enjoys peace and nature. We were visited by hummingbirds every morning and watched the deer roam around in the evening. It is a short drive to all of wine country, especially the Russian River valley. Communicating with Elizabeth was wonderful and she made a personalized experience for my wife and me who were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary. A great place you will not forget!
A beautiful, quiet and peaceful home amongst the redwoods!!! We enjoyed sitting outside as we breathed in fresh pine air and listened to the silence with intermittent echoing chirps. This place is perfect to get away from the everyday world to relax and reset oneself. Everything in this rental from the location, décor, and of course Elizabeth & Mark’s gracious hospitality, only creates a fabulous experience. This was our first VRBO rental and will always be a cherished one.
We spent 4 wonderful days at this property in early November. It was very nice, with many little details that added to the enjoyment of our stay including a well-stocked refrigerator, coffee service, and fresh flowers in vases. It is very quiet and somewhat isolated, in the forest so not much sunlight but beautiful. The bed was very comfortable. We enjoyed the fireplace in the evenings, it got cold outside and the floors were cold, so we appreciated the heated floors in the bathroom. There is no cell phone service in the area (it disappears a few miles from the house), but there is internet at the house. It was a little unreliable but fine for checking email and news. One odd note is that the master bedroom has no window coverings on the lovely floor to ceiling windows. We were there during the week so no one was around, but it still had a fishbowl feeling in the evenings with the lights on. The area is a little far away from the wineries we enjoy, so we did quite a bit of driving. There is no forest trail nearby for early morning or afternoon walking, so we drove elsewhere for these activities. Forestville is a small community and the restaurants there were mostly closed while we were present. The Farmhouse Inn is amazing, but being Michelin-starred, fairly pricey. And we drove to other restaurants, incorporating this into our planned itinerary so it wasn't a problem. All in all it was very much what we expected from a cabin in the woods, only better.
We needed to get out of the city and into the woods far, far away from our norm. This cabin is peaceful, clean, and exactly the spot we needed to unwind for a few days. Close to the places we wanted to check out but off the beaten path for privacy. Like other reviewers said, the bedroom feels a bit like a fishbowl at night without any drapes but it didn't affect my ability to have some of the best deep sleeps. Host goes above and beyond to make the stay welcoming and the guest informed of anything they'd need to know. Thank you!
Great house! We really enjoyed our stay!!! Communication with the house is great, she was very helpful with recommendations in the area and directions to the house. thank you so much for sharing your homeJennifer
This is a really beautiful, modern home in a quiet and peaceful redwood forest, while still being less than a 10 minute drive from groceries, dining, etc. The kindness and generosity of the host cannot be overstated. We loved our stay!
What a phenomenal stay. There is not a thing I would change. It was a lovely house with a lovely host. If you are thinking of booking this, do yourself a favor and just go for it.
