Our family friendly Cabin offers a great stay for all ages, year round. Red Dog Cabin 11k is dog friendly, so bring your best friend (up to 3 dogs) along for the adventure. The family friendly cabin has lots of things to do to keep the kids entertained. The location is near the top of Pennsylvania Mountain at 11,000' feet above sea level, in the woods with no visible neighbors, for a feeling of solitude. Relax and enjoy nature in a remote location, with just the sounds of nature. Work remotely with the high speed Starlink internet and charge your EV for free with the level 2 Charger. The cabin is located about 25 miles from Breckenridge and 7 miles to Fairplay. Enjoy this comfortable, inviting and cozy gathering place, in hopes that you will make unforgettable memories at Red Dog Cabin.
Master loft Bedroom: King Bed with ensuite bath. Bedroom 2: Queen Bed. Bedroom 3: two bunks with Full over Full and Twin over Full. Bedroom 4: Queen bedroom with ensuite bathroom.
This 4 bedroom/3 bathroom cabin, has an open concept floor plan, which is highlighted by the vaulted beetle kill ceilings, with window views of the mature trees that surround the cabin. The living room area has comfortable sofa to watch the smart TV (log into your accounts) or just relax, while enjoying the gas fireplace and the views. There is island seating with 2 bar stools and a high chair is available. The kitchen has all the essentials for preparing a meal and a gas range, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, and coffee pot. Thru a small hallway off the kitchen, is a full bathroom with a tub/shower, a bedroom with a queen bed and another bedroom with separate full over full and a twin over full bunk beds.
Upstairs in the spacious master loft bedroom, you can work from Red Dog Cabin, in the work station area. Hopefully the beautiful views won't distract you. Or you can curl up with a good book on the couch, play some boards games or watch TV in the sitting area. Wake up in the morning, watching the sun rise thru the pine trees. On a clear night the stars come to life. The master loft bedroom has a king bed with a heated mattress pad and a 4 piece bathroom, with a soaking tub. In the closet, you'll find a highchair and pack n play.
Downstairs, accessed thru the garage, is the 4th bedroom with a queen log pine bed, a heated mattress pad and an ensuite full bathroom. You will enjoy privacy from the rest of the house, in this pet friendly, 2nd master suite. All 3 bathrooms have shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispensers and hair dryers. In the summer, have fun playing Foosball or darts, in the garage game room. Head outside, and challenge each other in a game of corn hole or explore the woods.
There is parking inside the garage for one vehicle, which is very welcomed on those cold, snowy winter days. You'll also find a free level 2 charger for your EV vehicle, which is available except 5pm-9pm M-F.
Work remotely, with Starlink high speed internet. From a past Gary-"No worries about accessing the internet. Simultaneously, we had 2 adults on separate Zoom calls, 2 more on separate Teams calls, and the children on YouTube streaming Monster Jam." Ari -"The internet is phenomenal. We had 5 adults all working remotely and taking video calls. We had no problems whatsoever."
Kids will love playing outside with over an acre of wooded, secluded forest while the adults relax on the deck or grill on the propane barbecue. The kids will love “to pretend to be Tarzan” on the Ninja line. As the sun sets, in the non snowy months, roast marshmallows in the gas outdoor fire pit, with no worries of fire bans or permits. In the winter, there are sleds for sledding down the driveway or hills, which the kids and even adults, will love. Even though there are nearby neighbors, no other homes are visible from the house, for a feeling of solitude in the woods.

Other things to note
PLEASE NOTE: During the snowy (October thru May) months, **You MUST HAVE four-wheeled drive or all wheel drive, with good tires** as you will most likely encounter icy and/or snowy roads in the entire neighborhood. I do have a steep driveway which is great for sledding, but needs an appropriate SUV. Chains are even recommended. It is a bumpy, non paved, 2 lane road for the last 4.5 miles, but it's a beautiful drive thru the woods of Pennsylvania Mountain. The roads in our area are maintained / plowed by the county and that service is not within our control on when they plow. Our snow removal service will plow our driveway whenever there is 5 inches of snow or more. We cannot guarantee at what time they will come. The deck may or may not be shoveled, since access is thru the garage.
The cabin is located at approximately 11,350 feet (3,500 m) so be aware of the altitude. Esp if you have a pre-existing condition that could affect you.
Due to the remote location, please be aware that there is limited cell service. Verizon and Xfinity seem to be the best for service. There will be Wi-Fi at the house so another option to enable the Wi-Fi calling on your cell phone if possible.
Our cabin is in the woods - We do our best to keep out mice, bugs and spiders but it is possible to come across them, even with our exterminator.
If booking the discounted spring/fall off season rates and it snows, the driveway won't be plowed. I include plows November 15-April 15. You may have to walk up the steep, unplowed driveway, if your vehicle is unable to make it to the top of the driveway. My plow guy may be able to plow at your expense also, if he's available.
House Rules: Please review our cancellation policy prior to booking. We uphold this cancellation policy. We are not responsible and will not refund, if you cannot reach the cabin. Clean secluded cabin/house was perfect for celebrating our 36th anniversary. Pet friendly allowed us to bring our dog. Would recommend for those looking to get way, away for refueling.
My family and i had a wonderful stay! The cabin and property were beautiful, we really couldn't have asked for a better visit! The cabin was pretty and very clean and the property was peaceful and quiet, very relaxing. Thank you to our host Mary, she was vefy helpful and made the booking and checking process easy. We would love to visit again!
This is a great cabin with all the comforts you would need. Kitchen is well stocked and worked great for cooking for a large group. Mary was very helpful with answering any questions we had.
The cabin was exactly as described and exceeded our expectations. It is a beautiful area. The owner made sure that we had everything that we needed and left a very thoughtful gift basket for our arrival. Communication was excellent. We would not hesitate to recommend this cabin.
We had such a wonderful time staying here. The location is amazing, and the house and property are stunning. The check-in process was easy, and communication with the owner was straightforward and thorough. FIVE stars all around! We can't wait to visit again! Thank you so much,
This house was excellent. It was clean, well equipped and had everything we needed. The house is located at a very high altitude, so it may take a day or two to get used to.
We loved our stay! We had a relaxing weekend at Red Dog Cabin with some friends we don’t get to see often. The cabin is situated in a beautiful and healthy forest with no views of any neighboring houses. We had 3 kids ranging from 3-7 with us and the bunk beds were a huge hit! The cabin has a ropes course in the forest behind the house which provided hours of entertainment for the kiddos. Once the kids went down at night, the adults sat around the fire pit enjoying our time together. The sky was clear and the brightness of the stars was amazing. In the morning we went hiking on the Pika Trail which was a short drive from the cabin. The hike is easy with awesome views. Highly recommended for families or folks who are new to hiking and are not acclimated to the altitude. When our stay was over and we were back in Denver, I realized that I left my bluetooth speaker at the cabin. I reached out to Mary to see about getting it back. Mary was super accommodating and very responsive. She offered to mail my speaker back to me but I let her know that I had a business meeting in Avon and asked if I could swing by when it was done to pick it up. No issues on her end even with new folks staying at the cabin! Mary and her cabin are awesome and I couldn’t recommend a better place to stay! We will be staying at Red Dog Cabin again soon!
Great stay at the Red Dog Cabin! The cabin was very welcoming with clear instructions and lots of information about activities in the area. The wifi was fast and connecting was easy. The cabin is a short 5-minute drive to an easy hiking trail with spectacular views. The property was fun for our two dogs to explore, and we appreciated the available dog beds and bowls. The weather was rainy for the first part of the weekend, so we spent time in the basement/garage playing foosball, darts and the cornhole set. There are lots of little welcoming touches through the cabin and the decor is lovely. We would definitely stay again when returning to Fairplay!
We had a wonderful family get together at Red Dog Cabin. Mary our host was very attentive and easy to communicate with. The check in / check out instructions were easy to follow and quickly completed. We are planning to come back next year.
Booked this so family from across the west could spend the 4th together. The house was great! Plenty of towels, trash bags, and all the little things which doesn’t always happen with rentals.
Outstanding property, everything about this stay was wonderful. Communication from the owner was very helpful. All facets of the property where top-notch. Beds were fantastic, appliances great, everything you could need was there. Had multiple moose sightings and one of our favorite hikes 5 minutes away- thanks again Mary
We absolutely loved this place....
One of the most pleasant memories we experienced during our stay was the grey jays! My husband would whistle and they‘d come in a pair, pitch right on our hands and thank us for the piece of bread we had offered them.
Thank you Mary for sharing your great home to us and for the wonderful hospitality.
We will be back!
Comfy beds, spacious well stocked kitchen, hiking close by, and easy travel to Breck. Owner responsive. Home had plenty of supplies. We didn’t have kiddos but there was a ton for kiddos to do.
This place truly feels like home. Spectacular views and secluded location makes you feel like you are suddenly in one of the fairy tales, disconnected from the real world.
Awesome experience. We are going to be back.
Thank you!
Mary the cabin owner was amazing . Great cabin specially for group of friends. Everything as described in the cabin . Easy check in. Beautiful cabin . Definitely recommend to any big family or friends trip . Mary was cooperative with a situation-ship I ran into . My friends were able to attend .
Really enjoyed nearby hiking at Pika Trail, Pennsylvania Mtn Southeast Ridge. Amazing views of 14K mountains. Also recommend Hoosier Ridge.
Our grandchildren enjoyed playing in the woods and the outdoor fireplace.
Home was well stocked with additional linens, paper towels, etc.
Great internet connection allowed us to follow the Tokyo Olympics.
We had a great time at the Red Dog cabin. We were a fairly last minute booking and feel super lucky to find this cabin. Mary is awesome and made sure our stay was perfect. The cabin was great and had everything we needed but she also has a ton of information about the surrounding area. Based on her info we went white water rafting in Bueno Vista, Hiked a near by trail, checked out Breckinridge, and had some tasty sandwiches in Fairplay. We also enjoyed s’mores around the fire pit and got to see a moose right out front. My teenagers loved playing darts and cards. Overall an excellent vacation that we will always remember.
