Been here a few times and every time the room is neat, clean, comfortable, and pleasantly simple. The bathrooms stay clean and there has never been an issue with sharing. Hosts are pleasantly available and invisible at the same time, like a good wait staff. My go to in Eugene for sure.
It was a better experience than the first time. I’m glad we gave it another chance. The costumer service was very good. The room was clean and very comfortable.
Nice comfortable room with very comfy bed. Great location for walking. Close to many restaurants. Nice shared kitchen and bathrooms. Great price. Only inconvenience is parking if you have a car though there is a paid lot right across the street
I flew into Eugene to visit family and this place was perfect for me. It reminds me of a typical European hostel, low key but cozy.
The location was the biggest draw -- right across the street from one bakery and only a 10-15 minute walk to another. Easy breakfast! You can walk to campus, to the 7/11, to see a movie or go to a bookstore. If something is too far away, you can walk to the bus station and get a day pass for only $3 to travel anywhere in the city.
Truly a little piece of Europe right here in the US!

Great location, Good price. You get a basic but nice clean room with TV and comfortable bed. You have shared kitchens and bathrooms. Not fancy but it works and great price compared to hotels.
It is what it advertises. You share a bathroom (we were on the third floor - cheaper, and 5 rooms shared one bathroom, but you could go to the more plentiful bathrooms on other floors for some "quality time"). And you share a kitchen. Again, the 3rd floor kitchen was minimal, but baking up a pizza and eating the meal in the second floor kitchen was nice. It is convenient to the University, and very quiet. Comfortable bed and good (maybe excessive) air conditioning.
There is a rehab center next door and sketchy folk hanging around. It was never mentioned in any of the prior reviews. There was partying going on in the hotel and she did not get a good night’s sleep. It did not feel safe for my daughter, a UO student. The shared bathrooms were not clean.
I was In Eugene, Oregon for the 2025 Eugene Marathon and had the opportunity to stay at the Hotel Counting Z's.....What a GREAT EXPERIENCE.... Very convenient for travel from and to the airport - not need for a rental car as there are multiple bicycle rental stations for travel and exploring.
From the onset, the Hotel Counting Z's has great street presence on 11th Ave with a short distance walk up High Street to 6th Avenue for Marathon Participant Pick up and transportation to Haywood Field on Sunday AM. Also, it was an easy walk up Oak Street to the Eugene Saturday Market. This made for a quiet and peaceful sleep before the Sunday AM Marathon...
The Hotel Counting Z's has 3 stories with multiple common bathrooms per floor. The queen size room on 3ed floor was more than enough space and had a small closet and comfortable chair for relaxing...There was even a common kitchen and meal room on the 2en floor with kitchen and multiple coffee makers. The kitchen provided many opportunities to engage other runners
Will look forward to another stay should my running roads takes me to Eugene....THANKS *****
The property was clean and neat beyond expectations; however, the CONTACTLESS check-in was inconvenient, frustrating, and took several calls to Expedia. I was not the only person either. 3 others were also having the same issue that same night. We all did manage to get checked-in, but I will never choose that option again.
It used to be such a nice Airbnb. It used to be very clean. It used to be all set up in the game room. It used to be a really nice place. It is the complete opposite now. I was very disappointed. I’ve stayed there many many times, but it’s been a long time Since i’ve stayed, and it has gone downhill to the extreme the people next-door to us were rude banging on our wall. I have pictures of how disgusting the bathrooms were our room was although somewhat clean the pillows had yellow stains on them and the window were broken along with the shades. There was shady people out front smoking on all hours. The house is very old so you hear every little thing there was a lot going on there I used to give this place a five star review and now I’m giving it a one if that next time I would rather go to motel six then to stay there.
Counting Z's was a new kind of accommodation experience for me. I saw no "hotel" staff on premises. Communication before, through messages delivered via Hotels.com and through text (by request via my phone call, speaking with a live person, though one miles from Counting Z's). Door lock by code on exterior doors as well as your room door. The room is Spartan, just a bed, two chairs, a desk, with towels and washcloths, and wifi. Exactly what I need. You do not have a personal bathroom, but it was no issue getting into the shower or brushing your teeth. As the signs pointed out, there are plenty of bathrooms on the premises. Counting Z's is close to the U of Oregon campus and all kinds of local eateries and businesses. I'm looking forward to staying there again on the cheap.
Staying here was an overpriced and frustrating experience. We arrived and discovered only one towel in our room and no remote for the tv. Contacted hotel via text (no staff on site) and we were assured they would handle the situation right away. That was 4pm on Friday, still no resolution on Saturday at 9pm. My bad for not noticing that there was no parking and that there were shared bathrooms - that would have been tolerable if we hadn't received empty assurances that our problems would be handled (and never were). Room was very small - probably about 10x10.
Pros: nice location, digital locks worked without issue, relatively quiet, comfortable bed.
Price was exorbitant - about $350 for 2 nights (it was a game weekend, but, really, nearly 4 times the regular rate?!).

Liked: Room comfort
Disliked: Cleanliness
When I got to my room it was not clean. No sheets on the bed, no pillow cases. The comfort was on the chair and the pillows on the floor. I had to ask to borrow bed sheets from a friend that lives close by. So on my first night there I had to sleep without a comfort since I couldnt wash it because the change machine did not work... So I wasted money since they charged me for a cleaning fee and my room was not clean.
The bathrooms were dirty as well. Some one peed all over the floor and one bathroom had to be put out of order for a while....
It is near a market of choice, 8 min walking from a McDonalds and next to a really good taco restaurant. The wifi worked just fine. They have a coffee machine...but I am not very happy with my stay and I don't think I will be coming back.
I feel it's important to temper any review with the correct expectation going in: THIS IS NOT THE RITZ CARLTON, nor does it profess to be. Don't expect luxury; that's not what this place is.
I wanted an inexpensive place to sleep, was not traveling with my wife, and needed to be close to UO campus. This place checked all the boxes. The room was clean with new carpet; sheets were immaculate; the room was small but serviceable (desk, locking door, etc.)
It's communal living -- shared bathroom and well-appointed kitchen (fridge, microwave, coffee maker, Keurig), so there's a bit of hallway/stairs noise from other guests, which is to be expected.
If you need a place to crash for a night or two near campus, this place works. It felt a bit like a nice European hostel.
One suggested improvement would be a room safe.
