Elk Cabin: Epic Views of the Yellowstone River

Voted by CNN as a top 16 pick of "Best Vacations to Gift" in 2022, Elk Cabin is a top choice for travelers seeking an authentic Montana experience! Perched high on a bluff overlooking the Yellowstone River, Elk Cabin is a private oasis that can sleep 10 guests comfortably. With a private walking trail to a sandy beach, guests can cast a line, read a book or adventure along the shores of the Yellowstone River.

Elk Cabin is professionally managed by Cole Property Management, a Livingston, Montana based high-touch, high-service property management company. We are available via Airbnb or other booking platform messaging, email, phone or text should guests have requests before, during or after their visit. Please do not hesitate to reach out!

Elk Cabin is nestled in a peaceful rural setting on a hillside, where services and amenities require a bit of a drive. But the serenity, stunning views and connection to nature make the country escape well worth it. The closest neighbors are wildlife - Please respect their space by not feeding or approaching them, as this is their natural habitat.

Guests have full access to the main level, the loft, and the lower level’s dedicated laundry area and second bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. The rest of the lower level and the utility shed are reserved for owner use. Guests are welcome to enjoy the upper and lower decks and the surrounding yard — perfect for relaxing and taking in the classic Montana views. There is parking space for a few vehicles in the driveway.

Welcome to Elk Cabin — a true Montana treasure with sweeping views of the Yellowstone River and Paradise Valley, plus walking distance right to the river. Named one of CNN’s “Best Vacations to Gift” in 2022, Elk Cabin is a top pick for travelers seeking an authentic Montana experience. Just a short drive from Yellowstone National Park, two local hot springs, historic Livingston and downtown Bozeman, Elk Cabin offers the perfect Montana getaway location for up to 10 guests.

Inside the mountain side cabin, the main level features a fully stocked kitchen with quartzite countertops, stainless steel appliances, a farmhouse sink and seating for eight at the dining table. Step out onto one of two spacious decks for al fresco dining and mountain views. The cozy living area has a wood stove, comfortable furniture and access to a large hillside deck. After the sun sets, relax with a movie on the 50" TV. Enjoy the BBQ grill and extra outdoor seating — perfect for morning coffee or an evening drink under the stars.

Two bedrooms, one with a comfortable king and the other with a plush queen, and a full bathroom (tub/shower combo) are located on the main level. Upstairs, the open loft includes a foosball table, two double futons and two twin beds. The lower level offers a second full bathroom with a jetted tub, a separate shower and laundry area. (Note: the basement level has a few closed off areas for owner use only.)

Access the river via a graded path across East River Road to a peaceful sandy beach — great for fishing, reading or simply soaking in the scenery. (Fishing licenses available online or at local fly shops.) Breathe in the fresh mountain air, unwind and enjoy all that Elk Cabin and Montana have to offer. We’d love to host you — whether it’s for one night or an extended stay!

By car, Gardiner and the Yellowstone National Park entrance are just 15 scenic minutes south through Yankee Jim Canyon. Heading north, you'll pass through the charming communities of Emigrant and Pray, with Livingston about 35 minutes away. BZN airport is just over an hour's drive.

There's lots to explore on foot around the property. Elk Cabin is perched on a hillside, up a gravel driveway with plenty of parking next to the home. A walking path to the river is located just to the left of the cabin — it’s steep in spots and crosses East River Road, so please use caution. While there’s no boat launch access, guests are welcome to fish, swim or relax on the beach, depending on the season. (Water levels vary — enter the river at your own risk.)

PETS: Elk Cabin does NOT allow pets.
Service Animals (SA) are always welcome. Emotional Support Animals (ESA) require verified documentation from a licensed mental health professional at least 48 hours before arrival. Guests are responsible for any SA or ESA related damages.

SAFETY: Elk Cabin sits on a hillside above the river, and the path down can be steep — please use caution and stay on marked trails. Do not cross into neighboring properties. Children should never be left unattended, whether inside, outside, or near the river. During late spring and early summer, river levels can be high and currents strong. Enter the river at your own risk.

OCCUPANCY: The main level, the loft and the lower level bathroom and laundry area are available for guest use. There are 3 locked doors in the basement level for owner use only.

DRIVEWAY: The gravel road up to the cabin is steep -- please exercise caution when driving. A vehicle equipped with 4WD or all wheel drive is recommended, especially during the winter months.

Wow!

Really amazing place! We enjoyed everything about the place and it was so well stocked and clean. We enjoyed the stars from the deck, fly fishing the Yellowstone River, and snuggling up on the couch. Such a perfect property!

Great and beautiful place!

Property was everything that was listed! Great place. One thing that could have made it better was having an earlier check-in. For the price and only getting to check-in at 5pm was a bummer. Other than that, it was awesome!

Nice stay

The cabin is very beautiful and clean close to Yellowstone Park. The only thing I think should made be more clear is that the access in winter is not easy. The driveway is extremely steep and was a little slippery with the snow. But we had a wonderful time once we got into the cabin, very clean and well stocked. I had some issues to change the temperature with the thermostat, but the wood stove made it warm and cozy.

Elk Cabin WONDERFUL

Beautiful cabin on side of mountain overlooking the fields below and the Yellowstone River. Each morning and evening we were greeted with dozens of elk in the fields below. Wildlife abounds around the area and Yellowstone National Park conveniently located close by to enjoy all the area has to offer. This is undoubtedly one of the best rentals we have ever seen. The host was great and responded promptly. I would most definitely book this cabin in the future and hope I have the opportunity to do so. Great, great home.

Enchanting Emigrant Cabin

This is an amazing property along the Yellowstone River. The property is as described. We stayed in the summer and it was hot - there is one air conditioner in the living room. You can walk down to the river - we did walk down & fish. We did see some baby snakes & it's pretty rocky, so we did wear our sneakers. The town is very small but the general store has everything that you will need (we stopped to stock up on the way through Livingston). Elk walked through the fields each night & the sunsets are beautiful! This is a great spot to stay for entering the North entrance of Yellowstone National Park - we went for two days out of our trip and it was amazing as well. The only thing I missed was a crock pot or Instapot to pre-make some meals after some long days of fishing! Enjoy!
