Bright, cosy flat in a leafy backwater with partial sea views over the Firth of Forth to Fife, at the edge of one of Edinburgh's most desirable residential areas. Great place to relax after the bustle of the city centre, a short stroll from a sandy beach, picturesque Granton Harbour, the Botanic Gardens, and various shops and buzzing restaurants. Princes Street & Leith Walk are a 45 minute walk, 15 minute cycle and 25 minute bus ride away. Edinburgh's fantastic cycle path network (also great for walks) is nearby. Direct bus connections to town centre every few minutes. Night bus service.
The flat is comfortably-sized, bright and modernised with a spacious master bedroom and a 2nd double bedroom (both with lots of closet storage), a good-sized living/dining room with storage off and seating for 5, a kitchen with gas hob, electric oven, microwave, full-height fridge-freezer, crockery and cook-ware, traditional overhead clothes drying rack, and a fold-up occasional table, a bathroom with a full-sized bath with shower over, and an entrance hall with a washing machine. A quick-converting sofa bed in the lounge will sleep either a 5th person or 4th person who wants a separate bed.
The flat is on the 2nd (top) floor in a quiet, well-kept cul-de-sac just off Granton Road at the western edge of the district of Trinity. Access is by stairs only (no lift). Quiet community feel with good neighbours.
Free on street parking outside the flat - there are usually spaces during the day, but if there are none in the evening they're almost always easy to find just round the corner a few metres away. Regular buses to and from the city centre and beyond are a minute's stroll away.
Granton Harbour with its neighbouring sandy beach and lovely sunset views across the Firth of Clyde, Lower Granton Road with its colourful ex-fishermen's cottages, Edinburgh's famous Botanic Gardens (well worth a visit!), and numerous parks and recreation grounds are within easy walking distance (the beach is 600m away) . Various supermarkets, shops, takeaways, restaurants and recreational facilities (including the Alien Rock indoor climbing centre) are nearby. Port of Leith and the Royal Yacht Britannia are 40 minutes away on foot, or 13 minutes by bicycle.
It's worth noting that a bus day pass will give you unlimited travel anywhere in Edinburgh for £5.50.
Edinburgh's superb network of cycle paths, much of it beautifully wooded and following what used to be Victorian train lines, is virtually next door to the flat, and well worth exploring by itself, either by bike or on foot.
Outside, there's a secluded private garden (quite rustic - I'm trying to turn it into a haven for insects and birds, and there's a resident fox) with a small patio, table, and seating for 4, as well as a communal green with drying lines for clothes.
Note: please look elsewhere if you want to have parties or make a noise - but if you're looking for somewhere quiet to chill out after enjoying the sights, sounds and life of Edinburgh, it could be ideal.
There is no television. However, WiFi is yours to use for streaming etc. The flat is my home, so please treat it - and my neighbours - with respect. :-)
Guests will have exclusive use of the flat and its private garden area for the duration of your stay. You'll be given a code for a lockbox at the door to access the key. Please keep the key on you when going out during your stay, and replace it in the lock box when you've finished with it.
NOTE: please do make sure you take the key with you every time you leave the flat, even for a moment. It's easy to lock yourself out!
The flat will be looked after by a combination of myself and by friends who live locally. For emergencies, contact details will be supplied with the information pack I'll provide for the flat.
NOTES ON YOUR STAY
In order to keep the flat clean and hygienic for everyone, this is a no outdoor footwear flat. Please leave your footwear in the rack by the door and bring slippers or indoor socks if required (bare feet are fine!)
Please note: no pets or smoking inside the flat. Please do any smoking outside in the garden.
Apologies, but insurance means I can't allow the use of candles inside.
