Scottish break in Argyle & Bute

Ash lodge was a pleasant stay, it was clean, had all facilities that was needed. Could do with updating the interior as it’s looking worn/dark. The pub (Whistlefield Inn) was closed which was a disappointment, however there are some lovely pub/restaurants a short drive away. Overall, we had a pleasant stay but found it a bit too isolated for what we’re used to.

Beautiful countryside

Loch Eck side is in a beautiful area. Ash Lodge and Park have some superb views. The Loch side road is surprisingly busy so expect some traffic noise (not excessive though). The only negative on the accommodation is the decking outside the front door which feels springy and may be reaching end-of-life. The inside of the Lodge was clean and functional. I would definitely stay there again if there were no room at the Whistlefield Inn.

A great little lodge!

We stayed at Ash Lodge for a week at the end of May. It helped that the weather was fantastic but aside from that it was the best week. The bed is very comfy, good shower facilities and the kitchen has everything you need to prep and cook meals. Lodge is basic and "no frills" but for the cost I think it is great value for money. Personally we weren't there to sned 24/7 inside - we were out and about all day every day. The lodge is in a great location for walks and the views across the Loch are spectacular. We have booked again for October.

Lovely little chalet

We stayed in Ash Lodge for a short break in July, with our little dog. The site is tucked away and although there are other lodges around, it's not like the bigger places where they can all feel on top of each other. The chalet was spotlessly clean, with a well equipped kitchen, good shower and very comfy bed. Nice private garden area and veranda which isn't overlooked...except by the wide variety of birds visiting the feeders! The road is nearby but not too busy and is well screened by trees - you don't hear any noise inside. The decor may be a little dated but it's perfectly comfortable and well situated for exploring the area. Two minute walk to the Whistlefield Inn, which has a lovely bar and great food. Booking was easy and arrival instructions clear. Overall, a little gem which offers great value.

Clean, cosy and well equipped, great for a relaxing stay

We stayed at Ash Lodge for 10 nights and would definitely recommend it. We were pleasantly surprised on arrival - the lodge was very clean, well maintained and some basic items were provided such as soap, shower gel, washing up liquid etc. There were plenty of towels, the bed is comfortable and the kitchen has everythig you could need. The only downside is that due to the position of the lodge with all the windows facing towards the trees, it is a bit dark inside. However, the benefit of this is privacy - when you are in the livingroom or sitting on the deck you are not overlooked. There are a few shops and supermarkets reachable by car as well as plenty of pubs and restaurants, and also one pub at close walking distance open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Very good value for money!

Ash Lodge

Lodge was great however the shower wasn't working, no hot water. We raised the issue with the property manager and to his credit he responded very quickly can came to the property to see if he could fix the issue. He couldn't but after a few calls advised that someone would be arriving to fix the problem and we would be contacted. We never received any call or update so decided to cut our holiday short and leave. The bathroom sink also started to leak which restricted where we could wash. Its been nearly a week since we left and still no correspondence, poor customer service.

Great location and very comfortable

Really enjoyed our stay. Cosy and comfortable. Everything that you need for your holiday. A few very minor issues that have already been highlighted to the owner hence the score of 4 instead of 5. Would definitely stay again.

Ash Lodge @ Whistlefield

Not the first time we've stayed here and won't be the last. Fabulous location in a beautiful part of Argyll. The lodge is a perfect size for two and their pets. The wild birds visiting the feeding area outside the window was an added bonus. Friendly hosts Chris and Maggie made sure all was well. A suggestion for improvement would be for a washing machine in the kitchen instead of a dishwasher.

Great location but unclean

Fabulous location and the chalet was well equipped BUTvery disappointed to find the chalet had not been thoroughly cleaned before we arrived; the floor had not been vacuumed and the oven had not been cleaned. There were dirty roasting tins left in the oven and one in the cupboard. The chalet would benefit from better lighting.

Ash Lodge- great location

A great location for exploring the wonderful Cowal Peninsula and the Arrochar Alps. Cosy, peaceful and warm cabin, and everything functioned well. No view, but surrounded by lovely trees and 10 steps up the path you are greeted by the fabulous aspect of the surrounding hills.

The lodge is comfortable and is in a great location. It has easy access to many woodland walks and is about 100yds from the Whistlefield Hotel. The surrounding area is very quiet, ideal for a break away from it all

Fine lodge for relaxing

The lodge has everything you'd need, and is situated in a nice green environment. Like other reviews already suggested, it is part of a lodge 'park', and is quite close to the street. Because of that, it's not very quiet, but otherwise fine. When we arrived, the lodge wasn't cleaned, but that was rectified quickly after giving Chris a call. We can recommend the Whistlefield Inn, which has very friendly personnel. The Benmore Botanical Garden just around the corner is also really worth the visit.

Great stay at Ash Lodge!

We really enjoyed our stay at Ash Lodge! Very clean, cosy and quick responses from the owners. It was great value for money. The surrounding area is absolutely beautiful! And we enjoyed a great dinner at the Whistleford pub just up the road. Highly recommended and thanks for our stay. To be aware, it's not completely secluded, with similar lodges neighbouring but it's at the bottom so you don't look out onto anyone.

Lovely Cosy Cabin in a Peaceful Location

The cabin was lovely, comfortable and warm. The shower was good, the bed very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed including a dishwasher. There is a good selection of books and DVDs. Parking is a little further away from the cabin but close enough not to be inconvenient. There is a large covered veranda overlooking the garden, with furniture. If you love birds, take plenty of seed. There are bird feeders which we filled with seed and we saw a lot of birds visiting. There are also red squirrels in the area. A beautiful area and a good location for cycling/walking in the forestry. We would definitely return.

Perfect for a short getaway

Absolutely loved staying here, the lodge is perfect for a few nights away and our dog loved running about the garden space. The lodge itself was spotless and absolutely big enough for me, my partner and our dog. The location is about 15 mins drive from the port, our satnav struggled to find the actual plot where the lodges were but we called Chris who was really helpful in directing us. The lodge is a 5 min drive to Benmore Botanic Gardens (which is worth a visit) but as we only had one full day there we didn’t get to explore anywhere else. Would recommend here and would stay again!
