"An old period home, exterior is in need of maintenance and cleaning. Gardens around property could be maintained better. Interior of property is lovely and generally upkept well. The room was an average size, just a double bed, it was comfortable. Furnishings nice. Bathroom had a bath but it's in need of renovations and a good bleaching. Nice lounge area to sit for a drink. Billiards room was wonderful to play snooker. Restaurant for dinner was ok. A continental breakfast is avail, very minimal selection. Cereals, tinned and fresh fruit; croissants, cheese and toast. Cooked breakfast is an additional 10 pounds."

"Staff was excellent. Breakfast was good. The rooms are dated. We had the room with 3 single beds in it. Two were comfortable and one was too soft. No sheets to cover with only a comforter. No AC!!! Only a small fan.The room was kind of stuffy."

"I didn't like the amount of stairs because our bags were heavy (2 week trip) woth multiple stays. Also, a key from the front desk was necessary in order to access the pool. The location, however was very nice. Right in the square and walkable to food, shopping etc."

"Amazing staff, great location and parking The food is average and the menu is very limited, the room (19) has been updated recently but was right by the the main road and a noisy extract fan on the floor below which came on at 4.15am every morning. Overall it’s a nice big hotel that has been in the process of renovation for the last few years. It would be a much better experience if they could expand the menu and quality of the food."

"If you are after a big accommodation near the beach, with ostriches and llamas, hundred years old garden and trees and no near neighbors except the owners...this is for you. Perfect base to explore Kirkbean and Dumfries. Not very far from everything.You are given all opportunity to just be there but if you need help, Alistair is always ready to assist. You will have everything you will need. The only thing I can comment is that the showers are a bit tricky to use as they are all in a tub. My group loved our stay. Thank you. "
