"Everything was lovely. The bathroom was a little old and didn’t have a shower curtain so the floor got very wet. But it was a lovely stay. The room also had a bit of an overpowering smell of artificial cherry’s/berries which is fine. But just a little over powering with an artificial smell. But the room was very clean and if I was in the area I would stay here again! "

Decent accommodations, with the givens of walking up and down numerous stairs, dark hallways, etc. Personnel there ranges from: exceptionally sweet young woman - who carried our heavy suitcases up two steep stairs (no elevator) - to a very unfriendly male. "Just brilliant. Le Grand Monarque was recommended by a friend in the UK who stays there regularly. He really did us a favour as it is a fabulous and very interesting hotel with exceptional staff (especially Natalie on Reception). The parking is great value at €7 per night and the breakfast was delicious and nicely varied. Located in the centre of the small town of Azay-le-Rideu this hotel is an absolute gem. "
