Even though we were delayed arriving at the appointed time, our hostess made sure the “hand over” was seemless and she answered all of our questions. "Cabin is adorable and location is beautiful. However, the owner says the heat goes on in “am and pm” which is a stretch. The heat goes on for about an hour in the evening and in the morning. The cabin is the sane temperature as the outside. It was 9 degrees centigrade and the little coal stove could not warm the bedrooms, kitchen or bathroom. We had to check out early and find a hotel because our kids were freezing. I tried to contact the owner when we arrived but did not answer the phone. Just...

"The cottage was perfect for our family of 5 adults. Plenty of space, even an outdoor space to enjoy coffee in the morning. Clean and well stocked. The owner was helpful when we couldn’t figure out the oven! Would stay again!"

Gillian, who met me, was helpful, friendly and efficient and gave me some good advice about the area. Matresses were a bit basic. "There was no hand/body soap, no toilet/paper towels, no dish detergent. Towels provided were very shabby with holes. The entire place was pretty shabby. The views however were spectacular. For the amount of money we spent staying here you would think at least soap would be provided. Would never recommend staying here."

"Lovely, bright, clean accomodation. The house provided an ideal base for exploring beautiful Mayo. We enjoyed the 15 min walk into the village for shop, pubs and eating places. Would recommend The Country Kitchen for meals."

"This peaceful cottage is in a great location if you want to get away from it all. Finding it may have been easier if the instructions were in English rather than German. Easy access to Westport and Newport if you need to shop. The cottage itself was not the warmest place we have ever stayed and could do with a little tlc but generally comfortable . The inspiring views of Croagh Patrick were largely blocked by an overgrown hedge. However we enjoyed our stay very much."
