Hotel Angoulême Le Saint Gelais

"Lovely quiet hotel located by a magnificent church in central Angoulême making this a unique setting. We were using the hotel at the end of a 2 week holiday heading to Limoges airport in the morning. It was perfect. We had the family room which had lots of stairs to get to which was fine for us but might put some off. Room worked well and lovely views. The pool was great and we had a couple of beers sat by the pool served from the on-site bar. In the evening we walked into the main town (5-10 mins walk) which was lovely, quite busy and had a few decent looking bars and restaurants - we ate in Lion Rouge which was an Italian restaurant, we sat in the square, food and service great and would recommend. Overall would thoroughly recommend this hotel."

"Fabulous location and just next door was a wonderful restaurant, le Francois, but they were so under-staffed, the waiters literally ran through the restaurant to serve the people on the little deck in front of it and sitting out under the lights in the center of a square. The parking garage was tiny and intense. We felt certain that we must have gone into the wrong one. It was like someone's personal basement. We were deliberating on what to do and the nice young man at the front desk saw us and showed us where to park. It was a little disconcerting for him to tell us that he goes off duty at 7, so we needed to remember the code to get back in, but it worked. Our room was completely pink - walls and doors. Our room was over the next door restaurant so we heard kitchen noise, but it wasn't bad. There was no A/C and the day had gotten a little warm, so we wanted to suck in as much cool air as we could before we closed the window."

"Receptionist was very nice and helpful. Facilities were as advertised. Also, they were very kind to hold a large amount of our luggage for 6 hours after checkout to accommodate our travel plans. "
