Room was spotless and comfortable. We appreciated the history of the Inn and enjoyed talking with the owner. Easy to find and was a nice one night stay.
Beautifully restored historic home with amazing attention to detail. We stayed in the Astor room. Very comfortable bed and room was perfect. Close to the Ford house which we toured. Owners are very welcoming and passionate about their B&B and made our experience a great memory! Thank you!
Beautifully restored building. Loved the care and effort they put into making this inn what it is today. So much attention to detail. Great location. Wish our stay was longer. Would Definitely stay here again.
Great location in Indian Village area. Beautiful restored 1903 mansion of 16,000 square feet. exquisitely furnished with period furniture and paintings. Close to rverything Detroit had to offer. We stayed two nights and will definitely be coming back. Rachel was such a great host and proudly gave my wife and I a tour of the house. We loved every minute of our stay. Large and comfortable room with a super comfortable bed. You’ll love this one of a kind bed and breakfast.
This is an older home that has been beautifully restored. Every detail was attended to. The owner gave us a tour and history of the house. We will definitely come back again.
We had a fabulous stay! The room was spacious, bed and pillows were comfortable. The host was extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast of coffee and pastries was generous and delicious. Would stay there again!
Very inviting owners. The entire property has been meticulously re-assembled. Not to "original" but to a perfect mix of modern comforts with amazing charm. I would recommend this House, and already have recommend this house. It was absolutely perfect.
Had a wonderful stay at the Frederick Stearns property. The owners Eric & Rachel went above & beyond to make our stay perfect! They gave us a tour of the lovely historic home & even made special mimosas for us for our anniversary during breakfast which was delicious. Our room was very comfortable & large. While sitting in our room (Aster) I did notice quite a bit of dust under the bed which could possibly cause issues for those with allergies. Other than that, the room & home were spotless! I definitely highly recommend a stay at this beautiful property.
The house is absolutely beautiful! It's probably my fault for not reading correctly, but I thought there would be a full breakfast (there was coffee, fruit and pastries) and that the pub in the basement was open (private parties only). Our room (Aster) was uncomfortably warm, but the rest of the building was nice and cool. A fan in the room would have helped. Getting into the building late at night was a challenge as the door lock system could be improved. Beautiful architecture and history in this place!
My wife and I greatly enjoyed our stay at the Frederick Stearns house. The house was gorgeous, and we loved learning from the owner the history of the home and the work they put in restoring it. The room was quiet, clean and relaxing, and the coffee and fresh baked pastries in the morning were wonderful! Would highly recommend this stay to anyone that appreciates history, along with the comfort of a luxury hotel!
This was such a gorgeous place! Just beautiful! The owner checked us in and gave us a little tour. We stayed in the Zinnia room. I thought the bed was very comfy. It had Netflix set up on the tv. The fireplace in our room didn’t work though.
My wife and I and another couple spent two nights at the Frederic Stearns House and found it to be excellent. Spacious, clean rooms and an inviting ambiance. The historic nature of the Home added to a wonderful experience. Our host, Rachel, was gracious, most helpful, and we loved her cookies. If there is a higher rating than 5 stars, Rachel and the Frederic Stearns House deserve it. Highly recommended.

We were greeted by Rachel who has renovated, and owns this beautiful historical property. She is lovely:) she greeted us like we were family. The Inn is quiet and in a really pretty part of town. We were there to see a concert downtown, and it was an easy 10 minute Uber. The bed was so comfy, the room bigger than my first apartment. Well appointed. A must stay and a must see if in Detroit!
This historic home has been meticulously restored. It is very comfortable and quiet. Rachel is an amazing hostess and we feel as though we are family and at home when we stay there rather than lodging at a hotel. We have stayed there on several occasions now and it is the only place that we will book in Detroit from here on out. We have stayed at many other locations on The D, this one is the tops by a long shot. The rooms are all amazing and unique. The common areas and other places to relax are all equally amazing. We have absolutely loved every tour and sharing about the restoration of the home. We always look forward to seeing Rachel and sharing conversations with her. This place is special.
My stay was the Frederick Stearns was amazing!! My room was clean and Rachel the owner was very responsive to anything I needed. The location was convenient to get to anything downtown. Literally took less than 10 mins to drive to all the action downtown.
My only criticisms are that i wish the actual breakfast provided for the B&B had a little more. It was more of a lite continental breakfast with not many options. Other B&Bs I've stayed at gave you a hot breakfast with all the fixins. My other criticism is minor and it was that i cpuldnt control the temperature in my room. However, Rachel was very responsive when i asked her to adjust the heat in my room.
Other than that stuff, i HIGHLY recommend staying here.
This is one of my best travel experiences. I’ve recommended this as a to-go hotel to my friends with travel plans to Detroit.
The owner renovated the historic house with every single design and furniture reflecting the 19th century originals. Frederick Stearns’ story as a pharmaceutical entrepreneur is also inspiring. This whole history and story and the architecture turn the hotel into a museum. I personally could spend days just sitting there imagining myself living in the 19th.
Detroit is a great city with splendid history in business and culture. I’m thankful to Rachel for keeping the essence.
Reserved parking right next to the house.
Delicious breakfast.
I read other reviews for this Inn and I was excited to stay here until I met the owner. She was rude and dismissive towards my fiancé and I from the moment we met. She acted as if we should not be able to afford to be there. We were not welcome. IYKYK. Her husband however was extremely nice so look for him. There were other guests there having a party and she was being super helpful but each time she saw us she tended to look away and act as if we were not there. I cannot tell you what the amenities were because we were not informed of anything unless we asked. She was the only staff so we had no choice but to try to engage with her so we kept our interactions minimal. The Inn is beautiful and impeccably clean. The bed was comfortable but our night was ruined. My fiancé wanted to leave and I refused to because we would not have been able to get a refund. It was not a pleasant night.
The room was beautiful, spacious and spotless. Check-in was easy and the inn is conveniently located just a short distance from excellent dining options. We will be back.

On the positive: this is a very clean, well cared for former mansion that is conveniently located on a major Detroit street. Rooms are spacious and nicely furnished, with dressers, a television, and a omfortable sitting area with a loveseat and chair. The bathroom was clean.
As a guest, I would have appreciated several features and conveniences:
A coffee maker in the room or printed information about
Access to coffee in the main floor lobby in the morning.
Some print information with information about connecting to the internet; a brochure or literature from the Detroit Visitors’ Bureau; and a list of nearby restaurants.
As a customer, I would expect:
A grab bar in the shower/tub
Hot water in the shower; over three days it never was more than lukewarm
Hot and cold water faucet handles that allowed more than a dribble of water in the shower and in the sink
At least four bath towels rather than two
A bar of soap larger than only the two postage-stamp pats of soap provided, one in the shower and one at the sink
A plastic cup (or two) in the bathroom
