It's the closest place you can fly to after your forays into the rainforests of the Amazon near Iquitos, in order to reconnect with Peru's road network. There's a wonderfully laid-back vibe here, plenty of street art, local markets, as well as restaurants serving delicious regional specialities, and bars serving drinks made from soaking jungle roots in cane liquor. If you come here, stay at El Mirador. There's a terrace with amazing jungle views and the breakfast they serve is probably one of the best I've eaten in Peru. "This was the most unique, beautiful location I have ever stayed at. We were at an upscale resort in Tumbes earlier in the trip, and this far exceeded the service, tranquility, cleanliness, scenery by far. "If you want a quiet and relaxing time, don’t go to this hotel. We stayed there from Saturday to Sunday. An awfully load music started at 9 pm and finished at 4 am. It was so noisy you can hear it like it’s next door, even through the headphones. Impossible to have a good sleep.
