Eckington Bridge, the Avon completely still, almost no breeze, nesting Curlews calling from the hay meadow on the other bank, the sun rising through the mist, grass soaked in dew. Just me and another photographer. It's what we get out of bed at unearthly hours for.

The line to Birmingham at Defford
River Avon The River Avon was re-opened as a navigable river, with locks, from its junction with the River Severn at Tewkesbury to Stratford-upon-Avon in the 1970's. There have been proposals to extend the navigation further to join the Grand Union Canal somewhere near Leamington Spa or Warwick but there has been considerable opposition to this, so it is doubtful if that will ever happen.
