There has been a thriving fer decoupé (metal sculpture) industry in Haiti for nearly 60 years. The industry is primarily situated in the artistic village of Noailles, in the Croix des Bouquets area. Much of the art work is based upon the Haitian tradition of Voodoo. The metal typically comes from used drums. The unique sculptures can take many forms and styles from the one you see to light-hearted painted lizards.
A traditional voodoo ceremony, I was invited to while living in Haiti. Truly a crazy night yet an amazing life experience!
