"We were delighted with our stay at Shady Grove. The cabin is extremely well laid out, clean with quality throughout. My wife and I enjoyed hiking on the private 3 mile trail, seeing the grapes up close and from the cabin. The area is completely secluded and private with the exception of deer, fireflies, bluebirds and rabbits. The outdoor amenities were great and we used the grill for dinners we enjoyed on the patio. We will definitely plan to return."

"Very nice cozy cabin, close to AT and trails, 30 minutes to Roanoke. Nicely appointed with kitchen items, seating etc. Driveway is steep and gravel with some concrete for traction at sharp turn and ok after a trip up and down but more of a challenge in the dark. Secluded and quiet and a great place to relax. Bring binoculars if you’re into birds, saw scarlet tanagers, ovenbirds, pileated woodpeckers +"

"Our favorite thing about this property was the awesome river access. The kids had the best time playing in the river and the huge yard. The house had plenty of space for two families with children. The owner was always quick to respond to any questions we had. I would recommend having a few more utensils in the kitchen and more towels/wash cloths for guests but overall this is a great place to escape reality and just chill. We truly enjoyed our quiet, secluded long weekend on the river."

"We had a wonderful stay for our family of 4. The kids very much enjoyed the big yard and the game room in the basement. There are also TONS of things to do in the area! Multiple wineries, a Safari Park, a State Park with a beach, Hiking, Kayaking, Canoeing. Lots of fishing, including right in your own back yard in the New River! The kids caught a few blue gill and even a small mouth bass! We would DEFINITELY come stay again, and even plan on renting a few houses for a group of families in the...

"We wanted to visit Bristol for our anniversary this year but stay somewhere different. Luckily I stumbled upon New River Retreat and this little cabin. It was convenient to the interstates yet so secluded and quiet! We enjoyed steaks from Hilly Haven and even watched a Bald Eagle soar over the river! It was a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of life."

"No wifi and cell service is very spotty as one would expect. Not a criticism, just an observation. There are a good deal of steps to deal with so beware if you have mobility issues. The lake itself is a walk away, no direct views from the house. The rear deck needs some TLC."

"Property was fine. Will I stay again? No. Yard sell pots and pan and utiziles. Was not a level burner on the electric stove. No dishwasher. Just needs to be updated to make it more homey."

"The view of the lake is beautiful. The bed was very comfortable. The manager was very quick to answer any questions I had. The only negative is the hill to the lake. Its not awful but if you have mobility issues it would be a problem. Over all we (dog included) loved this place."
