Fish Species:

Walleye, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, northern pike, tiger musky, bluegill, pumpkinseed sunfish, rock bass, black crappie, yellow perch, freshwater drum, common carp, bowfin, burbot, longnose gar, lake sturgeon, gizzard shad, and round goby.


Oneida Lake I-81, southern shore

Fishing:

Oneida Lake is best known for its walleye and yellow perch fishery. In the spring walleye can be found in shallow water adjacent to spawning areas and tributaries. During the summer months' walleye are usually found in deeper water. As the water cools in the fall, walleye move back into the shallows. Fishing from shore after dark this time of year with stickbaits and blade baits can be fantastic. Walleye can also be caught through the ice around shoals, drop offs and deep water flats. Ice fishing for yellow perch is very popular on Oneida Lake and normally takes place around deepwater flats in 30-40 feet of water.

Oneida Lake is a fantastic bass fishing location, and numerous bass fishing tournaments are held each year on the lake. Oneida Lake has become a popular tournament stop for professional bass fishing organizations such as BASSMASTER and FLW. Smallmouth bass can be caught around the many shoals while largemouth bass are found in the larger bays and anywhere there is good vegetation growth. Panfish can be found throughout the lake. Big Bay is a popular ice fishing location for panfish and one of the first areas on the lake to ice up.

Young of the year yellow perch and gizzard shad, along with round goby are the main forage fish found in the lake.

Attention: Lake sturgeon can be found in the lake and its tributaries; however, lake sturgeon are on New York's threatened species list and cannot be fished for or possesse

Cozy little lake cottage

We loved this little cottage for the night when we were in the area for a bass tournament! It is cozy and quaint, love that it is right on the water. The owner was so nice and so accomodating! Thanks for a great stay!

Nice cottage for fishing vacation

Oneida River cottage rental

One of the most well stocked cottages I have ever stayed at. I never expected to see granite counter tops in a cottage. The owner was fantastic. We accidentally locked the keys in the cottage and he was there within 5 min. to unlock it for us with a smile on his face. It is a great place to relax and within minutes of town.

Lovely stay on the river

Perfect Lakeside retreat!

We had such a wonderful stay in this house that is literally steps away from the Lake! We went swimming right off the dock daily. The house was perfect...a real beach theme going on inside and is well maintained. We brought our boat and was able to dock it there too. Dan, the owner of the home, is easily accessible and very accommodating! Overall, I highly recommend renting this house!

Overnight fun

Fun 24 hours on the River! This place is exactly as described. My 5, 7 and one year old twins enjoyed swimming in the river, sitting in the screened in porch and watching a stunning sunset. Nothing beats a warm cup of coffee watching the sunrise and how the river was glassed over early in the day. This place will not disappoint.

Peaceful and restorative

The cottage was everything we hoped it would be: quiet, comfortable, and right on the lake. Great boating and swimming. Dan and his family were kind hosts who responded promptly to every request we made and generously provided kayaks and games. We are planning to return next summer!

Great spot for active family

Wonderful waterfront property. House is small but pleasant, comfortable for our family of four. Large yard space means it was easy to have a few relatives over for swims/socially distanced visits. We were in or on river every day. Owner quick to respond to questions.

Nice and quiet place

This was very nice and peaceful getaway. The house is comfortable and homy, the views are beautiful, and sunset was amazing! We spotted a huge beaver at night while enjoying fire by the river. Very nice, would definitely come here again))

Very relaxing time.

We absolutely enjoyed our getaway. House has everything what we need it. Sunsets and sunrises were breathtaking. Great place for fishing. Very welcoming. Simple and cozy. Felt like home away from home. Lots to do and see in area. We definitely will go back! Thank you for having us!

Summer Vaca 8/2019

We all had a wonderful relaxing vacation. Thank you so much! The home is as described - it's small, cozy, close to amenities, directly on the river - and it was exactly what we needed and wanted. We did sweep the house and wiped down all the surfaces upon arrival (but that's partially due to my OCD). We look forward to coming back next year (fingers crossed).

River camp

Perfect fishing camp on the river. We took the grandkids, they had fun fishing and swimming. There are two docks for your boats with plenty of water and access to the lake. There is a lot to see and do in the area. Dan was great, real nice guy! I would do this again! Ed G.

Nice little getaway

We had a great time at this nice little cabin as we visited for an extended weekend to fish Oneida. It is not the biggest or super fancy but it was perfect for the group we had. Everything worked as it should the boat docks are in really nice shape and the owner is very nice and friendly. I am looking forward to coming back next year to the same place and would recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay for their future fishing trip.

Cozy waterfront cottage, great for relaxing

Our group of 8 (4 adults and 4 kids) stayed 2 nights in the cabin and had a nice time. We were a little crammed with 8 of us, but the cabin size would be perfect for 6. It does sleep 8 people, however one bed is located on the screened-in front porch, so no heat or air conditioning there. We spent most of our time in the yard and dock area. The river is pretty slow moving and is perfect for swimming right off the docks! We had a very nice, relaxing stay! Thanks!

Very quaint and comfy. Great docks and water activity.

This place was perfect for our stay with cousins. We enjoyed the unfussy cottage and all the water time. There are a few things that could use some TLC in the kitchen area that will need to be upgraded soon. All in all a nice stay
