The Deer House is a quirky octagonal-shaped cottage, and like the other farm buildings and cottages on the Underley Estate, the Deer House dates back generations.
Before the thought pops into your mind, forget the James Bond Skyfall scene with Dame Judie Dench inspecting a hanging deer; no, this Deer House offered much happier times; it's where the deer on the estate would come to feed.
The Deer House is now one of three cottages on the Underley Estate. It offers a fabulous ground-floor living/dining and kitchen area alongside the log-burning stove and fabulous views from the many windows. Upstairs are the two bedrooms, both of which are en-suite, so this cottage is perfect for families or perhaps friends on a walking holiday.
Although an old character building, the cottage is centrally heated throughout by an eco-friendly air-source heat pump. Coupled with the fire, you're sure to be lovely and warm. On the warmer days, the enclosed garden is a wonderful space to enjoy, perhaps with a barbeque or a few drinks.
The Underley Estate benefits from approximately 1.5 miles of private water, including pools such as the Broken Banks and Catamaran. Guests can try fly fishing on the River Lune, which is renowned for salmon in September and October and sea trout during the summer. Fishing is by prior arrangement; an additional fee and tackle can be hired on the estate.
If fishing isn't your thing, you can try clay pigeon shooting or perhaps explore one of the many walks and footpaths over the fields and through the woods (a map of the estate is available in the cottage). Many of the walks are only accessible to guests staying on the estate.
To make your stay that little bit more special, add a food hamper to be delivered to your cottage for your arrival.
