"We spent a wonderful week in this lovely villa in August. Very well equipped and comfortable, and in a great location to explore the area - but note the roads are very windy and hilly so it can take a while to get places! The swimming pool is great with a fantastic view, and we enjoyed taking the kayaks out on the river. The owner Maria gave us some good tips on places to visit and made us very welcome. "We had a lovely holiday in Alvarenga. Manuel and his family were warm and welcoming and we loved attempting to chat round the pool in French and Spanish! It's a beautiful area with green eucalyptus hills and the Geo park provided some interesting spots to visit. "We spent a lovely week at Casa do Vimieiro. We were 2 couples, and the house was spacious comfortable, and clean. Susana responded to queries very promptly. The countryside is beautiful. My only caution is that driving in the area is not for the faint of heart. Also, people with mobility issues should avoid the house as there are many stairs and uneven steps going into the property. "What a very cool place! If you like interesting lodging and nature, you will love this place. It is a bit off the beaten path however, so you'll require a car. Definitely take them up on the offer to stay for dinner. Dona Natalia's home-cooked meals are absolutely delicious (if my Cajun grandmother was Portuguese, she would be Natalia), and a great deal at 15 euros per person, with wine. "
