Beware if you book this unit. Canandaigua had historic flooding from a storm on Sunday July 9th. We arrived at this property, 4 days later, on Thursday July 13th. On our arrival the front desk did not have a record of us and we had not heard from the owner on access to the unit we reserved. Once we told them we booked from VRBO they said they were informed that some units on the upper floors weren’t available, but they did not know the reason, as they are independently owned. We reached out to the owner who responded “Hello, I certainly apologize for the inconvenience but the unit is not available. We are more than happy to refund your entire stay.” No explanation was given at this time. On our cancellation details the owner noted; “ Emergency, city of Canandaigua flooded and a natural disaster occurred.” The hotel was fully booked on floors 1 through 3 and running normally. The privately owned condos are on floors 4 and 5. The flooding happened four days before our arrival. If there was damaged to the unit and it was not available, we should have been made aware of this well before our arrival. We did get full reimbursement but nothing additional for the last minute cancellation on their end. We had plans for our 35th wedding anniversary and could have made other plans with proper notice. The situation was totally unacceptable.
