The Editory By The Sea Lagos Hotel

"A lovely spacious hotel with potentially a lot going for it. Comfortable bed nice pillows, lovely pool, nice breakfast ( bit dull though). Sadly, the downside for us was it was absolutely SOUL-LESS. No atmosphere whatsoever. The majority of the staff were quite dour and at times unapproachable. Despite the description of the hotel being by the sea it certainly is not. It is quite some distance to the sea and the Seaview we were supposed to have from the room we booked was again quite some distance. We did find a lovely beach 10 minutes walk away which was really lovely. The town centre was a good 25 minutes walk which for us was just a bit too far so we used Uber a lot which was relatively inexpensive at under €4 a journey. As I said it has such potential but I think a more honest description of the locality would be fair rather than mislead potential guests. The staff need some serious training. I know it’s the end of the season but that is no excuse for not making everyone feel as welcome as possible. The main entrance has a revolving door that doesn’t work mechanically so is incredibly hard to push open. All these things need serious attention. Anything we asked for at the reception desk never actually happened. Despite all this, we managed to have a lovely week in Portugal and would certainly visit this country again."

"Hotel says 5 star could be argued as lower , needs updating , 80's decore , air-conditioning in room didnt work first night, couldn't leave door open for the patio cause it didn't have a screen ,second night they sent a repair man to fix air-conditioning, mildly better but not great . Parking not on site off site, bad directions to get there. Breakfast was the best I have ever had in a hotel . Great beach and pool. Staff wonderful. Awesome location"

"Front reception staff were pleasant and helpful. The Hotel is very close to the center of Lagos entertainment and dining area - 1 to 3 minutes from center, walking. My room was at rear of building and was quiet to outside noises. Some noise between rooms due to all the tile and hard wall surfaces, but not bad. Very clean, spotless with a large bathtub/shower combo. Very close to the town "bell", which was so nice to hear every so often. I noticed the bell didn't ring in the late evening or overnight (I would have liked if it did). Overall, excellent."

"The resort was very clean and the staff were very friendly. It was down season and the resort was very peaceful. It was great to have a washer in the room complete with a drying rack. We were particularly impressed with the Manager who took charged and faced a bit of an issue head on. There was a miscommunication around some maintenance after a call was made to the front desk. The manager took ownership of it, investigated the issue and came out of her way to come speak to us directly. She was professional, listened, apologized and made it right. I work in the service industry and this really stood out to me in a positive way. I would recommend this location if you are looking to step out of the hustle and bustle of the other cities and still be close to the action! You’re a quick drive away!"
