Transportation:
If you take the bus from the airport to "our Hacienda" (Betty’s place) follow these easy steps:
1. After passing through customs ignore all of the “information” or taxi people.
2. Hit up the ATM that dispenses pesos (some just give US dollars) to have money for the bus. Just get the minimum now, as the exchange rate unfortunately it floats as we speak, best place to exchange is the bank ATMs in town and most places take dollars or credit cards anyway.
3. Take the escalator upstairs to the level where you check into the flights.
4. Exit on the far right door as you are looking out. Door #4.
5. Wait with the group of locals that are about 50 feet to the right of the door. I don’t remember any sort of bus stop sign.
6. When the purple and orange "Ruta del Desierto" bus comes, go in the front door and tell the bus driver that you are going to the Santa Carmela Market (“Mercado Santa Carmela”). Pay 80 pesos ($4) per person. They give change.
7. It will take about an hour. You will stop at lots of local stops as you head south through San Jose del Cabo first.
8. Once out of town it turns into a 4 lane highway and quickly heads west towards Cabo San Lucas. Just keep an eye out for the Santa Carmela Market after a few stops on the highway, but the driver will probably tell you when you get there. Just remind him if you get worried.
It’s a easy downhill 5 minute walk to the house.
9. If you see the Home Depot on the right, you went too far past the market. Just get off, cross the highway and go one stop back to Santa Carmela. It is super easy, fun and safe, to be with locals, so don’t worry and have fun!
You will enjoy not having a car.”
10. If you prefer to have a car, make sure your car rental agency, gives you a written insurance coverage in México.
