Oceanfront, Dog-Friendly House w/ Shared Pool, Free WiFi, Ocean Views

This bottom-floor, Cottage Avenue Duplex condo, has two bedrooms and is an easy walk to the beach and ocean. A semi-oceanfront home, the condo features a kitchen and a bath for those who want to come to the beach to enjoy all that it has to offer. You'll be close to all the Buxton Highway 12 shops and restaurants, plus Fessenden Center Skate Park for the kids. A great way for you, your friends, and your extended family to have your own space is by renting Cape Top, in the same building, but as a separate unit with its own entrance.

Things to know:
You will be required to sign an additional lease agreement upon making a booking which will be sent to your email. You will not be able to check-in until we have received your signature electronically. Please contact us directly if you do not receive this agreement.


Please note: Guests have access to the Club Hatteras Pool Facility. Additional details around this facility will be shared in your check-in email and during the check-in process. The club is typically open Mid-May to Mid-October, depending on the weather.

You cannot beat this location (if you are familiar with Buxton)… just a few steps to the beach with great local restaurants and shops. The house is a good size for a family of 4. It was clean when we arrived and everything worked. The beds were ok for a beach rental. Some minor updates would go a long way with this place. There is no hose at the bottom of the house steps so sand gets everywhere. Overhead ceiling fans to replace the lights would help with running the AC. And watch out for the bathroom window- it drops shut if it is not pushed up all the way. You’ll need to open it to shower because there is no bathroom fan. There also isn’t a full door on the outside shower which is an interesting choice for a duplex. The couch is comfortable, but the chairs need to be replaced. All in all, we had a fantastic week. The house was missing simple starter items- salt/pepper, coffee filters, foil. Sheets and shower towels are provided. Bring extra pillows and blankets. There is a washer/dryer but it is shared with the other unit.

Minor Issues/Major issues

Comfortably clean and always appreciate the ease of key code check-in. Nice view from upper balcony. Now I understand it’s VRBO standard but initially saw ‘entire house’ & only realized it was a 2 unit building after the booking. No cutting board in kitchen, no beach area in front and could only walk to adjoining beach at low tide without wading. Biggest issue: entered unit & found suitcases, purse, laptop and dog bowls already there! Guest in upper unit apparently called Vacasa when they arrived to say they couldn’t get in, and the rep gave them a new code, not figuring out they were really booked in top unit. Thankfully those guests just stayed & switched units with us, but the idea of all their stuff being accessible to total strangers was alarming. Then after explaining all this to rep and that we were switching units, made sure to repeatedly note we were staying 1 day longer than them so code should NOT be changed until we left, when we got back to unit for our last night there, we were locked out and and had to call again to straighten out. Minor issue (until it’s not) 3 of the plastic deck chairs had damage which left sharp edges and kitchen chair had large sharp staples protruding under chair back (not visible) that were very capable of a good finger slice or puncture. The reps we spoke with were helpful and polite given the stressful reasons for our calls to them. Would probably not stay here again.

Oceanfront getaway

We enjoyed listening to the waves and spending time with our kids while staying here. It was relaxing. We were able to walk to a couple of shops/restaurants

Rustic and comfortable

The cabin is a bit small for four people, but just right for two. The furnishings are worn but comfortable. We had trouble accessing wi-fi at first, but an agent came right over and fixed it. Lots of construction noise in the area, bit that will soon go away. My only criticism is that the den has no lighting, and there aren’t enough electrical outlets.

nice older 2bdrm unit. great deck to watch the sunrise over the ocean. unfortunately absolutely no beach to sit on - NEast storm took that out two weeks ago... but still. great little place. we'll be back.

Comfortable beach house

This property was great! Good views of the ocean from the living room and porch, quick and easy access to the beach just a few feet out the door. The house was clean and comfortable, a great place to stay for a beach getaway.

Terrible stay; very disappointed with property

We rented this property for our Thanksgiving holiday and was very disappointed with this place. There were so many things wrong with this property that I don’t know where to begin. I recommend the owner repair the following, before renting again. *Blind fell off in bathroom and hit face *Bathroom window crushed finger when opening it *Hole in linoleum, main area *All kitchen chairs extremely worn ripped *front door wood showing…needs repair *Stains on dishwasher *Blood stained sheets on bed *Bedroom door knob sticks and unable to open *Black mold on vents and ceiling *Couch has fingernail polish back and rips *Coffee table was broken and rusted nails exposed *Coach roaches *Kitchen stove-burner did not work, stove bad shape.

I loved it here!

Quaint little place, just steps from the ocean. Spectacular sunrise views from the front porch. Furnishings were older and a little worn, but who cares!!! Great little beach place. Take your own hand soap and toiletries and you’ll be fine. I loved that linens were provided!!! The washer and dryer was a bonus. I left a wine bottle opener there for future guests. Enjoy!!!

Great relaxing vacation!

This spot is amazing! Condo is a 30 sec walk to the most chill, quiet beach. Only other vacationers or folks from the homes right there. Condo is slightly dated, but they have great cable (in den & one bedroom), amazing AC, amazing water heater, no bugs, & outdoor shower was super convenient. Kitchen had enough to get by, coffee maker/toaster good, no ice maker so bring a bunch of ice trays & you’ll be good for beach coolers. I loved Buxton & this property. The view is obstructed, but I knew that going in & there’s plenty of ocean to see on each side of the house in front of you, & you can hear the ocean all the time. For sure, it’s what you see is what you get, which for us was perfect!

Basic clean beach accommodation

Great location and very clean but could use some TLC. Furniture is very worn, lamp didn’t work and several blinds and windows did not work properly. As other reviews note, the kitchen is very sparsely equipped and you will need to bring everything in terms of food, even salt and pepper. It is about 100 ft from the beach and a short walk to pizza, ice cream and a convenience store.

Great location, nice house

This apartment is in a house located right by the beach, with a beautiful view of the ocean and easy walk to an excellent seafood market and stores. It’s quiet and relaxing. There is a large covered porch. The porch roof means that there is no sun on the porch after about noon, which can be good or bad depending on your preference for sun or shade - but the views from the porch are wonderful. The apartment is quite basic, with an old stove and not much counter space for food prepping, but we managed to cook every night. The place is clean although a little old. The bath tub was quite clogged up and didn’t drain well. But nothing beats the light and the ocean views you have from the main living room and kitchen. There was ample clean bedding, towels, toilet paper, etc. I would definitely come back here.
