Sleeping in the Hay—Family Adventure Vacations with a Campfire & a Starry Sky
Sleeping in the Hay—a unique nature experience for families and groups
Enjoy a special overnight stay in our hay barn; Instead of a traditional hotel room, you’ll sleep in a lovingly converted former barn.
This accommodations are ideal for families, small groups, and anyone looking for a unique experience. The focus here isn’t on hotel-style comforts, but on a simple, cozy, and nature-oriented stay. The Hay Hotel has four sleeping stalls with partitions for privacy. The stalls are large enough to accommodate 2 adults or 3 children in each one. So it’s spacious enough for 2 families, each with 3 children—and maybe even the dog. Dogs are allowed in the Hay Hotel, but they can’t sleep directly in the hay.
If your family is larger, or if one of you is allergic to hay, that’s no problem either, because right in front of the barn is a small meadow where tents can be set up (for an additional fee).
The best way to sleep comfortably and warmly in the hay is on a wool blanket and a regular comforter or a sleeping bag. After all, if your nose slips off the pillow, it can sting a bit without a wool blanket. The hay is treated with lavender, so it’s free of any pests.
In the surrounding area, you can go hiking, biking, archery, enjoy nature, watch animals, go canoeing, or go swimming in the Tollense River. The Mühlenhagen Nature Experience Park also has a large playground. There’s plenty of space here for bicycles.
The Nature Experience Park features a lovely barbecue area and a stone oven that you’re welcome to use, or you can enjoy a campfire right outside the door. The Hay Hotel has its own terrace where you can barbecue or cook your dinner in a pot over the fire. Of course, you can also use the gas stove in the kitchen.
You’ll just need to do the dishes at the washing area 50 meters away. The restrooms and outdoor shower are also located there. The shower is wonderfully spacious, and the water is always warm.
Once the kids are asleep, you can count the stars or enjoy the moment by the campfire. Here in the countryside, there’s no light pollution, and the stars shine beautifully.
Most children sleep much longer than usual at the Hay Hotel. And when the birds wake you up with their singing in the morning, make yourself a cup of coffee or tea, sit in the morning sun, and start the day with a view of the meadows and the rustling of the trees in your ears—and wait until the children wake up.
If you’d like to treat yourself to a delicious breakfast, come up to the café. There you’ll find delicious coffee, plenty of homemade specialties, and eggs from our free-range chickens. There’s something for everyone here: whether you prefer vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or meat-based options. The café is about 70 meters from the Heuhotel. Of course, you can also make your own breakfast. The kitchen at the Heuhotel provides everything you need, from dishes and a coffee maker to a refrigerator. However, you’ll have to do your own grocery shopping. And if you don’t have a car and need help, we’re happy to assist you.
Please note: This accommodations are intentionally kept simple and does not offer a traditional hotel room, but rather an overnight experience close to nature. There is no Wi-Fi or TV here.
