Hiked for 10 hours in one day last fall to see one of these many beautiful lakes in Big Pine, Ca in the Eastern Sierras.

This forest sits more than 10,000 feet above the town of Bishop. It's well worth the drive up a long winding road, both for the phenomenal views of the Sierras (be sure to go in the morning for the best light) and to see these trees. Some of them are more than 4,000 years old, making them the oldest trees on the planet.

My mother and wife’s mother were both school teachers in Bip Pine many years ago. It was fun to go back and visit. The place hasn’t changed much since we moved in the 1970’s.
