About this property

Emerald Acres, an elevated Retreat on Five Private Acres

  • The clearing comes up out of nowhere: five acres of evergreen, then an opening to the sky, and a single house standing in the middle of it.

Emerald Acres is glass on every side, the forest crowding the windows and the light arriving green. Downtown Bellingham is about ten minutes back down the road, and Scenic Highway 542 climbs east to the slopes at Mt. Baker in roughly an hour and fifteen. One roof, deep quiet, the trees doing the rest.

What You'll Love About Emerald Acres
•A single glass-wrapped house alone in a forest clearing, the nearest neighbor out of sight
•A great room where black cabinetry, a gas range, and an antler chandelier turn dinner into an occasion
•A primary suite that opens onto its own deck, with a soaking tub for the end of a long day
•Firepit and Adirondack chairs under string lights, the evergreens closing in once the sun drops
•Starlink and a Tesla charger on site, so remote work and an electric arrival both sort themselves out

Under One Roof Kitchen, dining, and living share one bright room, and with the windows running floor to ceiling the forest never quite stays outside. Early on, the coffee corner is the busy end of the house, somebody at the glass with a mug while the clearing wakes. Cooking happens at the gas range, framed by black cabinetry and a tiled backsplash, the island left for whoever wants to keep the cook company and an antler chandelier presiding over the table. An office off the main room takes the calls Starlink keeps clear. By evening the room reorganizes itself around the fireplace, chairs pulled in for a board game or a long pour, nobody in a hurry to call it. Three bedrooms give a group somewhere to land when they do.

    Sleeping Quarters
•Primary bedroom: queen bed with private deck access and an ensuite with a dual-sink vanity and a soaking tub
•Guest bedroom: two twin beds with built-in storage
•Guest bedroom: a queen bed framed by botanical wallpaper
A second full bathroom serves the two guest rooms.

The Acreage Five acres is more ground than most people know what to do with, which is the point. The deck off the great room looks out over the green and makes an easy place to lose an hour. A hammock waits in the shade for an afternoon that needs no plan, a book and a glass of wine and the trees for company, while the picnic table sets up lunch in the open air. Then the light drops and the firepit takes over: Adirondack chairs around the flames, marshmallows or a nightcap, the fire ticking down as the air cools and the woods go dark at the edges.

Down the Road Bellingham is about ten minutes out, its restaurants, galleries, and shops gathered between the bay and the foothills. Highway 542 runs the other direction, east and uphill, reaching Mt. Baker Ski Area in roughly an hour and fifteen for winter snow and summer alpine trails; the drive along the river and through old forest is half the reason to go. Hiking and mountain biking trails sit close to the property, and a lake is a short drive off for paddling or a swim on a warm day. The nearest major airport is Bellingham International (BLI).

    Good to Know
•Stays longer than 14 nights include a required mid-stay clean, billed at the time of service
•Tesla charger and Starlink internet on site

When the firepit dies down and the acreage goes silent, the house is the only light left in the clearing, windows warm against the dark trees. Find your corner of Emerald Acres.
