"Situated in a grand historic building facing the waterfront, with a multi-storey glass atrium and rustic bar that opened out into the gardens, this is clearly THE PLACE to stay in town. We enjoyed the dinner buffet upstairs at the Arven, particularly the fresh seafood selection, and a very generous breakfast spread the next morning. Our room was small and utilitarian, with a hiking trail a few yards behind the hotel building plainly visible from the widow, but noise was minimal in the evening, despite it being summer. There is left-luggage storage adjacent to the reception, which many people used to store bags while waiting for rooms to be made ready in the afternoon, or while waiting for onward transportation in the morning.
Kudos to the staff: Despite it being high summer, and being slammed with cruise ship visitors and a whole batch of folks arriving on the same train as we had, the staff was cheerful and helpful, and got us all situated with amazing efficiency."
