Cottage #2 on AuTrain River Near Lake Superior Beach, Pictured Rocks, Waterfalls

Conveniently located in the heart of the upper peninsula just minutes from Pictured Rocks, Lake Superior, dozens of waterfalls and endless outdoor activities and adventures. AuTrain River Cottages are located in a private association that is quiet and beautiful. There is about a 100 yards of river frontage to enjoy and relax next to. Cottages are pet friendly and range from one bedroom to 3 bedrooms and can accommodate from one to 8 guests. Each Cottage has all amenities included like WiFi, towels, linens, blankets, pillows and cooking supplies. There is a fire-pit area for guests to enjoy a fire w/a view of the river and wood can be purchased locally. Also included is a gas grill w/propane, and one free standard kayak rental from Da Ya Shak. Launching of the canoe is on site and shuttle service is available. Additional kayaks are available for rent. Mooring your own boat is a possibility, contact me for details.

The Cedar Cottage was my first cottage, I completely updated the interior and exterior of this place in 2009. It is perfectly setup for couples. The kitchen is fully stocked, there is A/C, WiFi and there is a 32" TV with internet streaming service. The bedroom has a pillowtop Queen which is very comfortable. Overall, it has tons of character as the walls are all original pine from the 1940's and overall has that UP feel. I have been told it's "very cabiny", cozy and cute.... Lounge on the deck, or down by the river! It is my most popular cottage among the 7 available.

The AuTrain River provides excellent swimming, and canoeing/kayaking as it winds 12 miles through the Hiawatha National Forest. Further down river puts you into Lake Superior and quite possibly the best beach on all of Lake Superior. Up river is the beautiful AuTrain Lake which provides a wonderful place to enjoy water sports, fishing or just a relaxing cruise. Bass, Walleye or Pike are your most commonly fished.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore located in Munising is only 15 minutes away and there are over a dozen waterfalls within a 30 mile radius. The National Lakeshore provides days worth of outdoor activities. If you are into fishing, Trout and Salmon are the most commonly fished in Lake Superior.

I have seen nearly everything in this area and am a great resource during your stay.

Vacation Planner Binder for the Win!!!
We really enjoyed our trip to the UP. The cabin was located nicely. We were able to spend time in Marquette and Munising without too long of a drive. The cabin was small, but worked well for my husband and I. We were able to enjoy many beautiful hikes and ate at great restaurants. We were able to find these activities because of the very helpful binder put together by the hosts. It made all the difference in our stay!

A Quiet Escape
My partner and I took our dog up to Au Train for the weekend, this cabin was reasonably priced, small and cute, and honestly it was quite pleasantly an unbothered experience. Location is super great for all of the scenic trails and overlooks.

Great place with a view of the river.
My husband and I (and our pets) really enjoyed our stay for numerous reasons: The kitchen was well equipped / There were plenty of towels / Nice glimpse of the river from sink, bedroom and front porch / Discount on a kayak trip (Loved floating to Lake Superior!) / Bed didn't hurt our backs / Close to a few great restaurants and convenience stores / Clean / RELAXING. The cabin was small but cozy; we didn’t need much room any way as we spent our days out enjoying Michigan. It was a CABIN which we liked a lot but I’ve seen comments from people here and at other cabins where it seems people expected a hotel vibe. We loved the fire place, TV, and location. It was not what we were expecting spiders, then a fifth wheel was put in between us an a nother cabin so basically they were on are porch, an then who was in the camper parked he truck on my car !!!😡😡needless to say not the 25th Anniversary we were looking for didn't even stay the second night we just left 😡😡

Was great property the first night was a little cold couldnt find the operational manuel for the gas fireplace and was extremly tired from the 8 hr drive but it was in the cabinet in the yahtzee box for some odd reason and not left out with all the other instructions and rules but had heat the second day. Tried calling but the voice mailbox was full. Other than that everything else was perfect.

Place was small but cute. Next to a pretty cool river you can swim in and a close drive to a beach. Could use some more kitchen things though. I would take plasticware and paper products. Shower is a bit hard to figure out but the bed is comfy. For what we paid it was a good choice for us.

We enjoyed three nights in the cabin. It is pretty small, with not a lot of "extra" space, but was great for us. (Although my husband, who is 6'4", hit his head going into the bathroom twice. :) The only negative was the water, which I believe is a well, smelled and tasted of iron. We had been spoiled by Lake Superior water at most of our other locations. But it was fine. We enjoyed the cabin and the location!!

Nice Stay
NIce location to the beach and water fall. Cabin was clean and there was easy acess to the river. The kayak trip from Northern Waters Adventures was great. Money well spent. we use the free kayak trip that was with the cabin was great. The cabin did have unreliable wifi.
