"Location and ocean view was FANTASTIC. While it's not a 5-star/ $1000 per night hotel, it has everything you would need/ expect from an excellent beach house. We were only a group of 2, but the house easily could accommodate 6 people. Great jumping off point to see sites on this side of the island (Hilo, Volcano, towns that existed a few years ago but then were taken by lava). "We were very impressed with everything about Fern Cottage from Matt’s instructions to the property itself. I have stayed in a number of rental properties but I have never seen the thoughtfulness I found here. Kitchen drawers were labeled. Individual heaters in the bedrooms as well as heated mattress pads. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed and there was a large supply of items for use on day excursions (coolers, snorkeling gear, etc). "Good location to take advantage of the Hilo area and the east side of the Big Island. Very clean and safe. Beautiful home. Had just about everything we needed during our stay. We would stay here again, book with confidence. Left us a nice welcome package and included a dozen fresh eggs. Very much appreciated. One little thing, there is a gas grill, but if you use it there is an additional cleaning fee. That should have been disclosed in the property description."
