About this property

Recreation & relaxation from your vintage Yellowstone style cabin in Absarokee!

  • Please note, 3 night minimum stay. - Location, location, location - In the North Yellowstone area of Montana, the town of Absarokee sits at the foot of the Beartooth Mountains, in the gorgeous Stillwater Valley. Absarokee is a gateway town to Yellowstone National Park, and the Beartooth/Absaroka ranges for recreation. Located near the confluence of the Stillwater & Yellowstone Rivers for world class fly fishing, and river rafting, and at the foot of the Beartooth Mountains for hiking, hunting, and OHV. Local businesses, Absaroka River Adventures provides river rafting adventures and Paintbrush Adventures for horseback riding. Being in town provides you the opportunity for morning coffee & bakery at Flanagan’s or a full breakfast at the Rosebud Cafe. You can even walk to the Stillwater Market for groceries. The 5 Spot and the Chrome Bar provide drinks and casinos in the evenings. During your stay, please shop local and visit the cute stores of downtown Absarokee! Walk down to Hawkins Park, just 5 doors down at the end of the street and see Rosebud Creek. We’ve seen a bald eagle, and a loose horse down at the creek!

An hour from Billings airport in the big city, Absarokee is 2 hours to Cody, Wy, 2 hours to Bozeman, 1 1/2 hours to Livingston, 35 minutes to the cute historical downtown of Red Lodge, and don’t miss Fishtail, MT, 10 minutes away!

Red Lodge has won the cutest downtown in America! It’s fine dining and cute shopping is a must visit from Absarokee. In winter Red Lodge Mountain is busy for skiers, snow boarders, and has an annual skijoring competition. From Red Lodge drive over the Beartooth Highway, the Most Beautiful Roadway in America, to the NE entrance of Yellowstone National Park through Cooke City and Silver Gate. You can take this one day route from Absarokee through the northern loop of Yellowstone Park, through the Lamar Valley to see the bison, and maybe a wolf or a bear, and have lunch at Roosevelt Lodge. Continue on to the mud pots and elk at Mammoth Hot Springs/Lodge, hit the National Park Gift Shop, and go out the NE entrance through the cute tourist town of Gardiner, to Livingston.

If you have time, don’t miss a day in the historical western town of Cody, WY and take another jaw dropping gorgeous drive over the Chief Joseph Byway. The Buffalo Bill Center for the West is a complex with 5 western museums, the Buffalo Bill Museum, Plains Indian Museum, Whitney Western Art Museum, Draper Natural History Museum, and the Cody Firearms Museum. The museums are amazing!

Closer to home, don’t miss the Fishtail General Store, built in 1900! It has everything you could possibly need, including lunch & dinner, groceries, toys, hardware, fishing gear, clothing, and your fishing license! The Coffee Cabin is also a charming creek side stop in Fishtail. Drive out to Nye and do the Stillwater Loop for more gorgeous mountain scenery. Mystic Lake and East Rosebud Lake are beautiful high mountain lakes for hiking and fishing.

Our in town log cabin in Absarokee is a camp for our family and friends. It is our DIY project, and you can take advantage of our lower rates until our update project is complete! Driven by my love of vintage western and national parks, I envisioned a vintage Yellowstone National Park cabin. My goal is to share my passion and make it comfortable for all! I love when the house is full of kids and grandkids, we stay busy! Absarokee has a community pool during the summer months, the back yard grass is big enough for sports. There is so many fun special events in the area, Absarokee’s own BBQ Cook Off Competition and Absarokee Days, Fishtail Family Fun Day, Nye Goes Nuts, Red Lodge Songwriters Festival and every 4th of July it’s the Red Lodge Rodeo! Big Timber and Livingston have their own rodeos and Reed Point has The Great Montana Sheep Drive!

One of the most appreciated parts of Montana is the public access to the mountains and rivers. If you’ve never been to MT before, notice the “put in” signs. The locals call them put ins, because you can put your boat in the rivers there. They are areas that provide public access to fishing, camping, and boating. The signs will have a fish and a hook on them. One of our favorite places to go is called Cliff Swallow. We can spend the day there on the river with the kids and our dog, whose life mission is to retrieve floats in any body of water. The town of Absarokee has ditch water flowing through the neighborhood in the summer and he can’t help himself, it’s water.

Our grandkids love to fish at Wild Bill Reservoir outside of downtown Red Lodge, it’s stocked with beautiful rainbow trout for the kids! We were attracted to Absarokee for the gorgeous mountain beauty and to share the western heritage, Yellowstone National Park, ranching, fishing, horses, and river rafting with our family. My husband rides his bike and has gotten stopped to let cattle go by. The Beartooth Mountains are drop dead gorgeous and we have a beautiful view right off our back patio! While sitting in back relaxing we might be visited by our neighbors free range chickens, deer, wild turkeys, and maybe the cows at the back fence! We have a BBQ and a fire pit for s’mores.

With 3 bedrooms we have room for plenty, and have an additional, I was told “canning room”, that we have a bunk bed in for kids only, please. The living room with a big old rock fireplace has seating for all and the 12 seating dining table has plenty of room for a puzzle and board games, which you will find on site.

The canning room is part of our ongoing project, a future bedroom for kids. One bathroom is in a state of update but is fully functional with a new shower and vanity. The other bathroom is tiny, and needs updating, but it is functional. Each bedroom has a hat rack and we give out towels for each “camper” and share the bathrooms, gathering our towel when we’re done to hang in our bedroom.

The kitchen is fully stocked and functional and we have loud family & friends dinners at the big dining table. Off the dining room is a locked bedroom as it has our stocked clothes.

We do not have Wi-Fi or a TV! We purposely do that to turn off, but our cell service is excellent and we can hot spot and stream on our devices. We had a family come visit whose kids walked in and said, “I can’t believe it, is it really true you don’t have Wi-Fi and a TV?!” They thought they’d die of boredom! Their Mom was so appreciative at the end of the week. The boys survived and thrived! They were so busy they never complained of no Wi-Fi or TV or boredom. The oldest left with a passion for fishing. We did crafts or a puzzle or games every evening. Frankly their Mom was extremely surprised that they never nagged her for a device or TV.

We enjoy being in the town of Absarokee and walking to stores, and love our neighbors, so please be respectful of them. We hope you’ll visit and find it as rich in Montana beauty, history, and culture as we do! Whatever your purpose, enjoy, and relax! And have fun!
