THE NICI Bournemouth
8/10 Good
"We were looking forward to staying at the NICI, but unfortunately I don’t feel the experience justified the price. The hotel was around twice the price of some of the other nearby hotels, so we expected a noticeably higher standard. It took us a little while to actually find the hotel, as the building work at the front completely covered the hotel signage. Hopefully this is only temporary, but it certainly didn’t make a great first impression. Our room had been upgraded, which we appreciated, but even so, it was surprisingly small for a hotel at this price point. The towel radiator also wasn’t working, which is disappointing and something you wouldn’t really expect in a hotel charging a premium rate. We were also given a complimentary drink, described as spiced rum. Unfortunately, it was served in a huge glass bottle with a large glass and pineapple straw and, to be honest, it looked more like the remains of an old drink that had been left sitting there than something freshly prepared. Neither of us felt tempted to drink it, so unfortunately the complimentary drink didn’t really add anything to the experience. We didn’t get the opportunity to use the outdoor facilities because of the weather. However, I suspect that the pool and outdoor areas are a significant part of what you are paying the premium for when staying at the NICI. If the weather had been better, perhaps we would have felt differently about the overall value. Overall, the hotel has a nice feel."
