"Such a special hotel in one of the most gorgeous cities we’ve ever visited. Staying in a hotel built right into the cave made our whole experience in Matera feel even more incredible. Everything about it was breathtaking and unique, and it was definitely worth the stay.
The spa in the basement was also such a nice bonus — especially after walking up and down all those hills! We absolutely loved our stay and would definitely come back."
"We were put into a handicap room, which is not what we asked for. It was just blah. No furniture in the room was huge. It was like an apartment, but there was nothing in it except the bed.
There was construction right underneath us, which made it very uncomfortable in the morning to try to sleep in"
"Jan war der perfekte Gastgeber und sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Ein sehr sauberes Hotel, neben der Grotte Castellana gelegen. Von dort aus kann man Polignano a Mare und Monopoli einfach erreichen. Das Frühstück war kontinental und ausreichend. Der Kaffee hervorragend. Dort rösten sie die Bohnen noch selbst. Essen gehen war ein wenig kompliziert. Es war schon fast alles geschlossen (Mitte September)."
"Our room (cave) was a short walk up from reception. It was a spacious "suite" with a very well appointed bath with the added feature of a wine cellar perhaps twenty steps below the main room. Breakfast is stocked in the room each day and restocked with whatever you use. The innkeeper (Luigi) was helpful in negotiating special events going on in Matera when we were there."

"I stumbled across this hotel whilst looking at a 5* property. I’m so glad I booked here. The owner Roberto and his colleague Francesco were so welcoming. The room I booked was fabulous. The wellness room with jacquzzi and Sauna on a separate level. The communication before arrival and check in was brilliant. Car parking booked and the hotel was easy enough to find. The views from the hotel of the sassi are amazing. The breakfast was so nice, something for everyone. On checkout we had a good chat...
"What a beautiful place to stay. The Hosts Michele and his wife are so lovely and helpful. If we had come here earlier in our trip, we probably would have stayed a week. Very handy to drive to Bari, Trani, Monopoli and Polignano a Mare.

"Beautiful house, Appolonia (not sure how to spell her name!) was very kind and helpful and accommodating. Convenient central location. There was espresso and light breakfast if you wanted it but there are also lots of cafes nearby.
The beds are INCREDIBLY uncomfortable 😭 my body was in a lot of pain. Time for some new mattresses, or at the very least some memory foam covers. I asked to an extra pillow to cushion my back a bit but it was only so helpful. This was really my only complaint as...
"Nun ja. Als wir vor etwa 12 Jahren schon im Albergo Italia genächtigt haben waren wir begeistert. Die riesige Terrasse der King Suite (Zi 115) mit Blick über die Sassi hat uns begeistert. Man hat sich damals gut vorstellen können, dass Mel Gibson während der Dreharbeiten zur „Passion Christi“ hier gewohnt hat.
Aber Matera hat sich verändert. Unzählige Privatzimmer und B&B‘s sind entstanden und man kann sich bei dieser Auswahl heute kaum noch vorstellen, dass sich jemand mehr als nur eine Nacht...
