The facilities for the kids were amazing - it gave us parents time to unwind and enjoy the peace and scenery from the lodge lounge whilst the kids played safely and happily. "Really nice hosts! This is a bit of a hidden gem, the name may suggest more of a summer vibe but this is a great spot for a winter weekend mission to the mountain. They don’t have many rooms which is kinda nice as is keeps things pretty quiet. Heaps of parking space close to the rooms and the spa was great after a day on the mountain. Simple, very clean and well priced with great host! Not much more you could ask for. "

"The River Lodge is a beautiful property set in lovely grounds. We had a large beautiful room, very comfortable bed, lovely bathroom and a balcony with a wonderful view of the mountain. We had fabulous breakfasts and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only downside is that it is quite remote - about a 10 minute drive into Ohakune."
