Our room (Jasmine) had a direct panoramic view of Bird Lake and we saw many different species of birds as well as small animals including chipmunks, water monitors, geckos (and a cobra one one day but soon banished by the staff...). "Like a sprawling colonial home. So many places to relax and take in the unique ambience. Loved the pool with lounge chairs in it."

"Excellent location (right inside Galle Fort) and value for money. The owners were really welcoming, nice and helpful. B&B located in a smaller street of the Fort, thus providing calm. Room with a large bed, A/C, mosquito net and small balcony. We definitely recommend it! We got our breakfast in another hostel managed by the owners."

We loved our stay here, the rooms are contemporary yet still with classic touches of the local styles, they are spacious and clean, and the hotel is in such a great position to explore the fort area. "There are 3 hotels in the Somerset group. This is away from the beach. Its up a very steep narrow concrete road. Its dark in the night and only 1 vehicle can go up or down this dark narrow road. The hotel staff are really nice. The rooms are a bit dated. The breakfast buffet was a joke as compared to hotels we have stayed in colombo. There was no buffet. Just a plate of fruit and eggs if you asked. Better stay is closer to the beach and somerset has a hotel right on tne beach"

"We stayed for 5 nights. Generally the stay was good but the hotel was a let down a little by the cleanliness of the rooms and that it felt a little tired. Service was good and any issues we had (noisy room and broken bathroom door) were sorted quickly enough. Wifi only worked close to the common areas in the hotel, our rooms were too far away. "

"You couldn’t ask for a better place to stay in Galle than this. One of the best places I’ve stayed in for a long time. I loved all the thoughtful touches of a cold juice when you arrive, flowers on the best and them putting on the ac before we arrived so we could arrive to a cool room. Free tea and coffee all day and the use of a fridge and freezer was amazing. Staff were also wonderful and very helpful. Couldn’t ask for more. "

"We had a great stay here and treated our Sri Lankan family. The chef and kitchen and service was phenomenal and the rooms were great. Lot of room. Ensure to enter the number of people you plan to have with you while booking, otherwise you might get surprising surcharges. I checked online and could have gotten the same rate I paid if I entered the right amount of people. The hotel manager was not very pleasant, I guess he saw the Dollar signs in his eyes when he saw a foreigner coming in. I would...

"Hotel J has the potential to be a great hotel however the cleanliness and lack of attentiveness from staff lets it down. We arrived with dirty sheets and towels and had to ask several times for this to be changed. Despite this the food at the hotel is very nice and the pool is great at the end of a hot day. Another minor problem is the lack of sun loungers at the pool, there is nowhere to sit! "

"Room and the location are excellent just near by the beach. Service and hotel facilities are great. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Thaproban beach restaurant is the best restaurant in the area and dining at the beach is wonderful experience. Best and delicious food. Worth for the money spent.
