"My spouse and I had a fantastic stay at Hotel Izukyu! I'm already planning to come back later in the summer. My Japanese is limited so we really appreciated the staff doing their best to explain policies in English. We stayed in a Japanese style room, it was huge and had everything we needed and more - and the view of the ocean was fantastic! We also took advantage of the private onsen, highly recommend. Buffet breakfast had a ton of great options, and we appreciated how large the dining room...

"Great place for families visiting Shimoda and Izu Peninsula. Definitely a hotel catering to Japanese tourists, but with a little Japanese and respect the staff is very friendly and works with you. Some of the staff spoke some English. Bathhouse, arcade, and hotel amenities were great. Walking distance to everything downtown and easy spot to drive to other locations. Would definitely stay here again with family on vacation. "

"This place is right on the shirahama central beach with amazing views. Beach can be accessed from the ground floor. They had shower facilities to clean up. Staff were very friendly and supportive. Loved our stay. "

"Hard to get around without your own vehicle;hilly and not walkable. Also, I had a course dinner at Fuji restaurant which was poor at best and there was no other option. The lodging and the service by the staff was great though. "

"Amazing ryokan experience. Staff went over and above to cater to every need. The accommodation was comfortable sleeping on futons on tatami mats. The beautiful robes they provided made us feel at home. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. They even provided us bento boxes for lunch. Onsen was nice but not as clean as I would have liked. Different brands of soap, shampoo and conditioner but no face wash, no hair brush or other small amenities. "
