"Everything perfect, given a room with good view, appreciate! Will return to stay"

"Tres propre, lit tres confortable. Déjeuner tres bien"

"We stayed for two nights. Overall a good experience. The staff is very kind. Food was okay, wouldn’t call it great. There’s one thing we didn’t like, the fact that there’s no real housekeeping. Our room wasn’t made at all. We only got a bag with some fresh towels. It is mentioned that rooms are cleaned every three nights but we still expected a bit more. Overall a very nice hotel."

"Special design vibe was the attraction for our party. Need to reserve breakfast the day before, so plan ahead. All in all a nice unique alternative in Takayama, part Japanese, part Western."

"Great location and value. Pleasantly surprised by this hotel."

"We had the best time in takayama and not least because of our stay here. It was one of the highlights of our Japan vacation. It feels really traditional yet well maintained and clean. The room was so nice and cosy. We also enjoyed the public bath. I hope we get a chance to visit again sometime."

"The room is small with some unnecessary equipment, making it very difficult to open my suitcases and walk around in the room. Honestly, I didn’t feel like staying in the room for too long. Staff are nice, service is provided pretty quickly. The fan in my bathroom was out of order. I told the front desk in the morning and it was fixed when I get back to the hotel in the evening."

"Very handy to the station and local sights. Super friendly staff. Loved the open air onsen and the beautiful rustic town."

"The hotel was ideally located between the station and Takayama's Old Town district, making it extremely convenient and quiet at the same time. The room was clean and spacious at the same time, with a traditional bathroom, immersing us more in the old town feel. Staff were helpful and assisted us with our enquiries. I booked this hotel for the Autumn Festival, and couldn't be happier with my option. If you want somewhere that is quiet, traditional, intimate and convenient, the Machiya is your...
