"A stale kitchen smell hung around the reception and permeated the building. No lights were on and it was like entering a dark cave. I normally like quaint old hotels but this was just down at heel and dispiriting. The photographer must be very clever as the reality was dismal. "This is a very pleasant hotel where we have stayed before. However rooms are not large and bathrooms are on the small side. Service varies from very charming to quite sullen. The restaurant maintains a high standard with a diverse menu, although the selection does not vary much day by day."
