"The property is located in the historic centre. Really beautiful built into the caves. If you have luggage, it is a bit of a walk up a few stairs and cobblestone streets so I would recommend taking a backpack or ordering an ape to transport from the parking centre. The room gets humid solely because of the cave structure but the AC system is fantastic! You need to order breakfast a day in advance and there is no option for early check in. "Hotel In Pietra is a fantastic choice for visiting Matera. The entrance/lobby could not be more grandiose - it used to be the XIII century church of San Giovanni. I used room 1004, large, tastefully furnished, comfortable, and with probably the best balcony view over the old city. The staff is friendly and most helpful. I will certainly return."

"Holiday residence is a farm that has been converted into a very pleasant place to stay. The rooms were comfortable. The staff were friendly and efficient. The grounds were lovely and the food was excellent, rustic fare. I would suggest staying here only if you have transport as it is a bit off the beaten path. However, the hotel does provide a reasonably priced taxi service."

"Hotel was ok, staff were friendly, however having had a 10 hour working day I was booked into here because it had a restaurant, only to discover that it's shut on Sundays. Had it said this on the website we would not have booked it. By the time I booked in I was too tired to drive into the nearest town for food and had to make do with a bag of crisps. They wouldn't even make a sandwich for me. The room was ok but there was a lot of black mould in the shower."

Yes, the room is small but considering your in a building that is hundreds and hundreds of years old, maybe thousand of years, who cares! You have a window overlooking the 3rd oldest city in the world! Yes, it is about a15 minute walk from the parking garage to the hotel but you have to walk everywhere in Matera anyway, and once you make a turn close to the hotel and see the city for the first time ,...
