"No elevator, carrying luggages to 3rd floor with no staff to help was hard. Location is excellent 2 min from Gora station and cable car to major attraction in Hakone is a plus. Any food or bus stops are 12-14 min walk but the only way is through a very hard long stairs."
"Perfect if you want an old-fashioned, really traditional Japanese inn experience. Shared public bath, views of the lake, futon bedding in tatami rooms (sit on the floor), breakfast is hot rice with a raw egg or ochazuke… it’s hard to find places like that anymore. And the bus to wherever you want to go stops either at the hotel or across the street."

"The electronic check in is overly complicated and intrusive. We had to provide scanned copies of passports and then do a video call to verify our identity. It is not just a matter of scanning the QR code which was sent to us.
Don't use the restaurant downstairs. It is ridiculously expensive for what you get. The Caesar Salad needs to be renamed to "bowl of lettuce with some dressing and cheese" to reflect the actual content. No bacon, no egg, 5 croutons."
"This place has a lot of character and was a great experience. We didn’t book the Irori dinner, which I regretted very much. It’s a hostel, not a hotel, so as expected it was a bit spartan. However, the main sitting area was lovely and interesting and the staff were top notch - warm and accommodating.
