Very clean room with nice amenities in Executive Suite, could cook dinner if you wanted to. Owner/manager was very helpful and informative about location and transportation. Car not needed, as train station within easy walking distance. 12 minute train ride into Wellington.Out of town of Wellington, and there may be restaurants nearby, but we didn't see much within walking distance. However, manager pointed out large grocery store within walking distance (uphill), where you could buy food for...

I stayed at this property for 9 days and it had everything one needs including a fridge, microwave, oven, sink and every kitchen gadget along with dishes, utensils, and pots and pans. My room was clean and well appointed. My room was essentially a studio apartment. The prices are very reasonable. The staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Green Gables will be my go to stay on my next trip to Lower Hutt, Wellington.

One of the best hostels Ive stayed at. Great decor and vibe. Lots of lounge space. Free bike rental which I used to ride to Weta Workshop. Met some cool people while hanging out there.

Clean room and well maintained

I wasn't sure what to expect, because it's a hostel. You don't get your own bathroom, but they are clean and well kept. Also, if you have mobility issues, this might not be for you, since there are steep stairs to the rooms. If you're looking for a quiet place outside of the Wellington bubble, this may be a good spot. It has an beautiful front room that overlooks the harbor. I sat there several times with a cup of tea for hours. I ended up having interesting conversations with other guests that...

Overall great hotel for location and cost. Highly recommend.

I had a very pleasant stay at the Richmond Guest House. I thoroughly enjoyed my conversations with John. The Guest House has a great location and one can walk to many things in Wellington. If I am ever fortunate enough to go back to Wellington I know exactly where I will be staying, it will be the Richmond Guest House. I read several negative reviews and I just did not understand them because my experience there was very positive and would absolutely recommend it to other people.

Spacious room and newly renovated bathroom. Good bed. Friendly staff. The hotel web site warns that it can be noisy on weekends due to the bar, but I was there on a Wednesday night and it was very quiet. Came from airport at 1am and access and check-in was fine. Good value and I would stay there again mid-week. There was a movable bar radiator in the room which (in my opinion) was a completely unnecessary fire hazard, given there was a proper wall heater bolted to the wall.

Clean and conveniently located for shops. Kitchen facilities for a multi-night stay is a bonus.

Old building is well kept. The staff is always available to assist as needed, any time in 24 hours. Managee Mtchel has been great during our stay at the hotel.
