"We had previously visited the Richard III Pub last summer and were very impressed with the welcome we received and the food on that occasion, so we decided to stay here this year while visiting family in the area.

"Lovely hotel in the heart of Kirkby Stephen. No breakfast, but could be arranged albeit for an extra fee, and a bit too late for walkers. Comfortable bed and bedding. TV and wifi worked well."

The other 3 pubs in Hawes all were doing a roaring trade over the hot bank holiday , but the Board closed around 7.30pm , had no food and very few clients.
The breakfast in the Cockett next door was very average. Never seen green scrambled eggs before....they were rank and inedible."
