"If you're looking for a swank hotel, then this is not you're looking for. However, if you are looking for an excellent place to stay with gracious hosts and family, then this is a perfect spot in Tanabe. We stayed here on 10/24-25 to hike Kumano Kodo trail. Koushi and Chiyoko were extremely gracious hosts and treated us like family while we were there. They went "beyond the call of duty" to help us in finding a lost jacket left on the train and they made sure we were safe all along the way. ...

"I booked this stay because the website reported there was shuttle service for the airport. There was NO SHUTTLE SERVICE, even when asked for!! The room I was in did not look like the picture, and there was a very bright "Exit" sign that stayed on throughout the night. It was also very difficult to find, even for cabs with an address. "This is a guesthouse, not a hotel. Be sure you know this before booking. You get a private room with bedrolls for the number of people you booked. The owner speaks English, and is willing to drive you to the train station, or supermarket if you need something. He will also pick you up if you are able to call in advance. The bathrooms were clean, and the owners very friendly! A great authentic Japanese experience!"

"It is clean and sufficient. Downside is that it is a bit dated, lack out power outlets to charge all the electronic devices. The host, Ken is very friendly and gave me a excellent intro of the area. I only stayed one night before hiking the Kumano Kodo. It is close to the train/bus station so that is a plus."
