"It was a tough start. I didn't realize that check-in was only until 8pm, and we were in Nurburg when the hotelier Florian called me. I didn't understand what he was saying, and being up in high elevation meant my cell phone kept dropping the call. I thought he was trying to determine what time we would be arriving, but what I later learned (when I got there late at night and found a closed and deserted street), was that check-in was well past closed and I was not to have a room that night....
