"The staff of the a&o are excellent. They are the reason why I gave this place a 5 star. For a hostel, it was also very clean and well taken care of. I appreciated the restaurant and bar that was on the ground level. It was a nice place to relax and wait for our room to be ready. "Staff friendly, helpful and responsive. Room and facilities clean. Parking secure and convenient. Breakfast convenient and plentiful, great to have so many options, including traditional Scottish. Canteen style works for the setting. Rooms basic but as expected, as is the overall stay. Would stay here again for the value and practically. "

"Great location for exploring Edinburgh, city centre is easily walkable. Arrived late due to transport issues and host was very accommodating. Room was downstairs so no windows, but was clean and a nice place to stay in. Private bathroom wasn’t en suite which wasn’t an issue, but I feel like this could have been made clearer when booking. Other than that, great price for a very convenient location. "

"well placed for staying near the beach great sized bed ( room 2) and overall a good stay disappointing at breakfast - people who arrived after me got served first and while it was a busy breakfast with everyone arriving at the same time - the kitchen couldn't cope and in fact i had to leave without breakfast ( even though i'd paid for it) as they food took more than 25 mins to come out - and i don't know how long t would have taken"
