Johannesburg is safer than what it used to be at the end of the 90's and early 2000s. There are still areas I wouldn't go but overall it's a beautiful a safe city with a lot to offer. It's like the New York of Africa.

The Rosebank area is super convenient for shopping and food. Its also relatively safe. Sandton is also safe especially in the day time. Melrose arch is lovely
