Surva Festival, Pernik, Bulgaria The International Kukeri Festival takes place in Pernik in the end of January / beginning of February, less than hour from Sofia. Bulgarians and people from all over the Balkan wear scary costumes and big bells in order to scare the evil spirit out of town.
