Crystal City Apartments – Practical Stay, But Know What You’re Getting

We stayed at Crystal City Apartments for a little less than a week and while the unit was clean and spacious enough to fit two beds, it lacked many basic essentials. The kitchen was minimally stocked—no salt/pepper, no oven mitts, no washcloths, and only one roll of paper towels and toilet paper. We had planned to cook but ended up eating out since we would’ve had to buy too many basics. One of the beds had unsecured bunky boards that kept shifting, causing the mattress to collapse on one side. The unit stayed uncomfortably warm due to central heating that stays on until mid-May, and there was no option to cool the room despite temps in the upper 70s. Would have been nice to know beforehand. We also couldn’t open the blinds—there were no cords or wands—so the apartment stayed dark all week. On top of that, it’s right next to the trash chute, and starting as early as 4:30 a.m., the sound of garbage hitting the bin was loud and jarring. No sleeping through that.Check-in was smooth once we got the code, though it wasn’t sent ahead of time as promised, so we had to request it at arrival. The best part? The location. It’s only a 5-minute walk to the Yellow Line Metro, which made traveling around D.C. incredibly easy and convenient. That made up for a lot of the rental’s shortcomings. We adjusted our plans and spent most of our time out and about. Great for travelers who just need a clean place to sleep—less ideal for those planning to hang out and cook.
