"One of the cleanest and spacious hotels we have stayed in. Made to feel very welcome although arrived fairly late, food was available and William could not have been more helpful. Ryan the manager was very pleasant and helpful the hotel is a credit to him. Would highly recommend."

"We loved our stay at the Ancient Gatehouse. The room was lovely and looked out over the green in front of the Wells Cathedral. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the hotel has an excellent Italian restaurant, where we enjoyed a delicious dinner before walking around the lovely town of Wells. Americans should know it is not air conditioned, but air conditioning is rare in the UK and Europe. There is a fan and lovely large windows. We will definitely return."

"This hotel is sort of country lodge chic, meets modern bathrooms. The customer service was great (even though they were sold out). A very central location so great for getting around, but obviously a bit noisy until the pubs close. I'd check the parking situation with them beforehand - I didn't and then ended up a bit away as I drove to the hotel and couldn't see it but there is a private carpark nearby. "

"Lovely clean and well maintained room. Staff very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. Breakfast was just continental (toast and jam/nutella, cereal, fruit and flavoured yoghurts) but as I'm diabetic they went out shopping and got me plain yoghurts and marmite for low sugar options."

"Our first experience of a dog friendly hotel and the staff couldn’t have been any nicer or helpful which totally made the difference and would 100% go again. Location is perfect to explore the town and surrounded by dozens of bars cafes and restaurants so you can just take your pick."

"First visit to this Hotel and I must say how delited I was with the degree of professionalism combined with a friendly genuine welcome from the moment I arrived to leaving. Standard of accommodation was terrific with an emphasis on attention to detail. Would highly recommend the full English breakfast. I'll definitely add this hotel to my favourites list. 10/10 "
