The main-floor interior features a bright, open layout with strong natural lighting and vibrant coastal decor. Relax in the living room with shows and movies on the smart TV or keep the home chef company at the four-seater breakfast bar while they set to work in the full kitchen. When it's time to eat, there's room for everybody at the dining table set for six.

The downstairs den comes equipped with another smart TV for household convenience and a covered deck for quiet moments of seaside reflection or morning coffee.

Beach Vacation

This was the perfect location with a perfect view of the beach from both decks. Walking distance to beach. The beach was dog friendly and was not crowded. Just wish we had been able to stay longer. Lots of things to see and do. Can’t wait to return.

Beautiful views in Rodanthe!

We had a relaxing and enjoyable stay at the Pickled Mermaid! The house is close to the beach with great views of the water from the large wraparound deck. Beds were comfortable with a TV in all rooms (except for the kids room) and the house was well-equipped with what we needed. The remodeled master bath with large shower was nice. Rodanthe is a sleepy town - perfect if you are looking to get away from the crowds in other more populated parts of OBX and have a quiet getaway.

The place looks good in the pictures, and the photos are accurate, but they seem to have been taken when everything was brand new. The furniture, tables, and other items were quite dirty, rusty, and old. There were noticeable stains on the couch and tables, indicating that the place could use a thorough cleaning.Additionally, I don’t think the blankets were washed recently, as they appeared quite worn and used.As for the neighborhood, it didn’t have a great appearance. Although it’s near the ocean, I believe you can find better places a few blocks away from the ocean, especially in the Outer Banks area, for a similar price.One more thing to note is that this location is quite remote in the Outer Banks, requiring about an hour’s drive from Elizabeth City to get there.

Friend trip getaway

The location was perfect, 30 seconds from the beach. The views on the porch were amazing. Some of the furniture outside wasn’t in the best condition, and the kitchen cabinets were really unorganized, but we had a great time! We also noticed a potential septic system issue and notified the property management company.

Girls trip fun

Our group of three had a wonderful time at The Pickled Mermaid! We were there early in the season, so several things were closed, but there was plenty to keep us busy on our laid back girl's getaway. Everyone enjoyed having their own king size bed and bathroom. Home has a nice design and was decorated well. Beds were super comfortable. We spent a lot of time on the wrap around deck with the great beach view. We did not cook a lot, but the kitchen seemed to be well stocked. Living area was comfortable with plenty of seating for us all to stretch out after a day of exploring. Easy walk to the beach. This home is located in a great small subdivision and centrally located as you explore surrounding areas. Locals at shops and restaurants were top notch.

Nice visit over the holidays

This home was nice for a quick family visit during the holidays. If the cleaning staff had been a bit more mindful of vacuuming prior to our visit the sand burs wouldn’t have been as present throughout the house. Description of the home indicated there were extra blankets we found none. Lastly recommend an exterminator because we did see three roaches and would not want the homeowner to have those to increase. Overall I would recommend this home, but a few more maintenance details would improve the experience

Great place overall!

My family and I (6 adults) had a great Memorial wknd visit. The upstairs common area is very large, spacious and sunny. Great space for us all to relax and cook. Kitchen has about eveeything you need, minus your spices, coffee filtets etc. Large deck rea for lounging with a great ocean view (now that the house in front on the beach collpased while we were there!! A sight to see!) The only odd thing to happen (besides witnessing a house fall into the ocean lol) was the fire alarm went off multiple times one night for no reason....and the attick woodem board opened upstairs over night due to wind). A few great reatuatnts around but, a quite sleepy town with walking beach access down the road!

Great views, steps to the beach!

This is a well situated home just a short walk to the beach. The hump at the front of the driveway wasn’t that bad! I was expecting a huge dip based on the comments, but it was more like a speed bump. We had a small car in our bunch that made it over just fine. The deck has a great view of the ocean and is perfect for watching the sunrise and sunset. Plenty of deck chairs for the whole family. We used the bogie boards that seem to be left behind by a previous guest. The beach chairs provided were a little rusted so we didn’t use those. It was great to have a washer and dryer, and they provided detergent. Check in was great and we even received a text saying it was ready earlier than expected! The home is great for large families. Our only frustration of the trip was the minimal number of bath towels available (1 per person) and there was no shampoo/conditioner, no coffee filters, aluminum foil, not even salt and pepper in the kitchen. Usually you see these types of items in a rental home. Since they didn’t advertise as offering these amenities I’m not reducing the stars, but it’s good to be aware that if you are flying into your vacation you will have to stop to buy these items. We left what we bought behind. Overall a great rental, just make sure you come prepared!

Great location, lovely house

This is a lovely, large home with very easy beach access and a great view of the waves from the deck. I would caution other guests that the speed bump at the beginning of the driveway is bigger than we anticipated, bottomed out a few times with our average sized sedan. There is also no sign on the house that says “the pickled mermaid”. That being said we are looking forward to our next visit and would definitely recommend to others.

Happily Pickled!

My sister and I spend a week on the outer banks every year. The Pickled Mermaid has proven to be one of our favorite locations. We will definitely return. Rated communication with property management very low only because we had no need to call them.
