Henkes Jenever distillery ‘De Ooyevaar’
Delfshaven (Museum) Voorhaven 19-31 Rotterdam.

On 23 October 1824 founded Johannes Hermanus Henkes, Arie de Jong and Gerke d'Arnoud Gerkens a gin distillery on the outer port in delfshaven on and gave it the name "De Ooijevaar".
The distillery was established in an old roaster, which together with the boilers and other installations shortly for its creation was purchased. For grinding of the barley, used as raw material for making Gin served, made the distillers use the wind malt mill "De distilleerketel", which is still in the historic delfshaven.
The De Ooijevaar was founded in a time where the Gin industry was recovering from the economic crisis during the French time. Despite the tough time the company grew quickly, it expanded in 1827 with a third distilling vessel and it was the first company in delfshaven in 1850 that made use of a steam engine to power the machines and installations. In 1852, the distillery by the death of Gabriel and early departure of Daniel in full ownership of Henkes. In the 50s and 60s of the 19th century he had the old buildings gradually replaced by current distillery building, completed in 1867 that whole and nowadays so it is called Henkespand. "Great hotel near the centre. 10 minute walk from Den Haag Central station. Room I had was huge with microwave and fridge. Very clean. Comfortable bed. Staff very friendly and helpful. All in all a good choice of hotel. "

"I loved everything except the glass bathroom door. It’s just personal, you can hear everything and when the light is on at night you wake everyone up. But the hotel is amazing, the staff are lovely and the views are incredible. The buffet breakfast option at Waves is well worth it. "

"This was the first time solo travelling for a while and first time to Rotterdam. I’d read some infavourable reviews before I travelled and was a bit nervous but I chose the hotel because of the location. As soon as I arrived late at night I was greatex a warm and in iting reception bar area with 5 attentive staff who couldn’t have made me feel more welcome! The room was quiet super clean with lovely bedding! Coffee machine and tea provided and ample hanging space. From that moment on the staff couldn’t do enough to mKe me feel welcome. Loan of an umbrella and some sweet treats after coming back in the evening (after I asked if there was any chocolate!) The hotel is right next door to the Museum Park and across the road from Witte de Withstraat - full of restaurents, bars and arts and cultural venues. Super friendly staff and a 10 min wlk from Central Station. I would definitely choose this hotel again."
