A holiday with a difference.....for us at least :0)
Casa Assilah is a really lovely property situated (more or less) at the top end of the beautiful Spanish mountain town of Cutar. It is fairly remote although a 10 minute drive away you'll find a bigger town with a really decent supermarket and petrol station (you drive through this town each day). It also has bars etc, but we didn't use them. From the main road near to Velez-Malaga the drive to Cutar will take around 20/25 minutes due to the twisting mountain roads and Road Calming measures. After 10 days of driving backwards and forwards, this did get a bit annoying as you cannot do it any quicker so just look at the scenery which is something of beauty.
There is no doubt that you will need good working legs as you have to park your car at the bottom of the town and walk up a steep hill. The hill does level out (sort of) at points for a breather, but considering you will likely be carrying large water bottles, Shopping, Beach kit and so on just hope you have many hands to make light work. You can drive your car up to the front of the house (for a quick stop) but beware, this is a super narrow street, with some resident cars already parked up and it will require some quality driving skills and a small but powerful enough car to get up, decent handbrake and then some clever manoeuvring skills to get back out. We hired a fiat 500 and the car just about died on me as I reached the critical point of the hill. Wouldn't be a massive problem if there were no other cars but vehicle space is seriously limited. Please don't let this put you off, you just sometimes want an easier life than walking up the hill with all your goods.
Anne, the host, was great to liaise with along with Marie who lives in the village. We didn't need to bother Anne, just asked Marie a couple of questions about restaurants etc.
The property is on 4 floors with a couple of steps down into the lounge, 10 or so up to the bedrooms and then a similar amount after you walk through a more enclosed sun lounge area and onto the roof top. The property is kitted out with just about everything you'll need for your stay and you will also find numerous cleaning products, and other useful items for your use. You can't use everything you buy, so just leave it for the next guests to use.
If there was one tiny thing to improve our stay, it would've been air chilled air con in the bedrooms and not stand alone and ceiling fan lights.
It is a lovely property so go and have fun.
